This includes use of a collaborative stance to facilitate engagement, understanding and managing readiness and motivation for change, and working with treatment non-negotiables to enhance patient autonomy.

More recently, Josie has studied therapeutic elements across evidence based treatments, factors that contribute to maintaining a collaborative stance, and the role of self compassion for eating disorder patients, carers and clinicians

Josie has worked in the assessment and treatment of individuals with eating disorders, and expanded her work to other populations, including HIV, substance use, and obesity. She is supported by grants from the Canadian Institute for Health Research and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
