The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada recognizes conferences and workshops held outside of Canada that are developed by a university, academy, hospital, specialty society or college as accredited group learning activities.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ claimed by physicians attending live events certified and organized in the United States for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ can be claimed through the agreement on mutual recognition of credits between UEMS and AMA, considered asbeing equal to the European Continuous Medical Education Credits (ECMEC©) granted by the UEMS. One AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ is equivalent to one (1) hour of European EACCME Credit (ECMEC©), therefore up to 39.25 ECMEC© Credits are available. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the altered presentation of common illnesses in elderly patients.
  • Discuss the etiologic factors contributing to the most commonly encountered geriatric syndromes.
  • Describe principles of appropriate and effective prescribing in elderly patients.
  • Differentiate between the effects of aging and disease.
  • Discuss management of common medical problems in elderly patients such as COPD, pain, infection, and osteoarthritis.
  • Define palliative care and its role in caring for elderly patients
  • Identify three opportunities to engage patients in advanced care planning
  • Recognize patients who are eligible for hospice benefits
