Event Overview
Welcome message:

This course is designed for practicing pathologists, senior residents and fellows who want to update and improve their knowledge of gynecologic and obstetric surgical pathology and cytopathology.  An expert faculty, many of whom worked on projects such as the WHO 2014 Blue Book and the LAST Project, will guide you through the interpretation of biopsy and surgical specimens and help you enhance your diagnostic skills by participating in interactive lectures, quizzes and video microscopy sessions. At the completion of this course, you will be familiar with the most up to date terminology and diagnostic criteria for a wide variety of gynecologic and obstetric conditions and you will be well equipped to apply the most important ancillary tests to support your microscopic diagnoses. Throughout the course, the faculty will stress practical diagnostic tips and discuss what information needs to be in the pathology report to maximize its value to the clinician and the patient.

The course will cover the entire field of gynecologic and obstetric pathology, including discussions of updated nomenclature for ovarian tumors and recent changes in the criteria used to classify them, fallopian tube pathology and the relationship of tubal tumors to tumors of the ovary, common and problematic forms of endometrial carcinoma and how to use immunohistochemistry to correctly diagnose them, uterine mesenchymal tumors, including newly discovered hereditary variants of smooth muscle tumors and new variants of endometrial stromal sarcoma, cervical cancer and its precursors, and how to diagnose and classify them using the LAST and WHO terminology. Vulvar and vaginal conditions and tumors of interest to clinicians and pathologists will be reviewed. There will be a practical review of placental pathology and an update on the diagnosis of hydatidiform mole and gestational trophoblastic neoplasia, including information on when and how to use immunohistochemistry and molecular genotyping.
