Welcome message:

This program introduces the concepts of health care risk management including the role/scope of a risk manager and a risk management plan. It will assist with identifying both real and potential risk exposures in a health care setting, and the use of risk management tools to help minimize, avoid and/or mitigate these exposures by proactively implementing loss prevention and loss control techniques.


Designed for those new to the field, as well as those wishing to enhance their skills and knowledge, this program will assist with the development and implementation of an effective risk management program in your organization.

Renee Blomme 

Manager Patient Experience & Corporate Risk 

North York General Hospital

Renee Blomme, RN, BScN, MN is the Manager, Patient Experience & Corporate Risk at North York General Hospital (NYGH). In this role, she develops corporate strategies to protect NYGH and its staff from fortuitous loss, identifies potential sources of loss and minimizes or eliminates liability exposure. This includes risk identification, monitoring, prevention and mitigation, claims and litigation management. Renee works closely with the hospital’s leadership teams, staff and physicians and has built an integrated risk network in the organization; she is regularly sought after for her expert guidance to effectively mitigate and manage risks in clinical and non-clinical areas across the hospital’s three sites. She is responsible for the patient experience office, risk management processes including management of patient safety incidents and medicolegal claims, emergency preparedness, corporate policies, legislative compliance management and the NYGH Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program. One of Renee’s many innovations is the establishment of the corporate critical incident process committee to review potentially critical incidents through an interprofessional lens, ensuring effective follow up management of such incidents. Renee has a Master of Nursing from the University of Toronto, a Masters Certificate in Risk Management and Business Performance from the Schulich School of Business and has more than thirteen years’ experience in the field of risk management. Due to her wealth of knowledge and valuable contribution as a formal mentor to new risk managers throughout Ontario, Renee has been an invited speaker to many conferences. She is a frequent presenter for the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and has previously taught the OHA’s Certificate program in Health Care Risk Management. Renee’s passion for Risk management is palpable through through her enthusiasm as a presenter on the subject matter.
