Event Overview
Welcome message:

Vision Australia and the City of Melbourne invite you to join us for Vision2014, the International Society for Low Vision Research and Rehabilitation's 11th International Conference on Low Vision in 2014 in Melbourne, Australia.

Australia is the source of some of the world's leading research and practice in blindness and low vision, and we play prominent collaborative roles regionally and globally. It's a perfect home for the next meeting of our vibrant international low vision community.

Leading academics from around the world will guide the development of a first-class scientific program, exploring all aspects of the conference theme: Advancing Research, Upgrading Practice and Improving Participation.

Melbourne City is putting together an exciting social program to ensure you get the most out of your visit. Pre-and post-conference tours around Victoria and other parts of Australia will also be available.

Your trip to the conference will be both intellectually exhilarating and socially stimulating. I look forward to meeting you in Melbourne at Vision2014.

Sincerely,
Ron Hooton

Scientific Content Up to Date
Submission Info

Abstracts are now invited for presentations at Vision 2014 which address the conference themes of: Advancing Research, Upgrading Practice, Improving Participation.

Abstracts will be accepted for consideration by the Scientific Committee in the following categories:

  • Oral Presentation – Each paper is allotted 15 minutes for presentation and discussion.
  • Rapid Fire Oral Presentation – Each paper is allotted 7 minutes for presentation and discussion.
  • Rapid Fire Oral and Poster Presentation – Each paper is allotted 7 minutes for presentation and discussion as well as displaying a poster for the duration of the Conference
  • Poster Presentation – Will be in a special display area for the duration of the Conference.

Oral Presentation

You are invited to submit an abstract, no longer than 200 words, describing a presentation of 12 minutes plus 3 minutes for questions and discussion.

Oral presentations will be part of a number of parallel sessions and there will be facilitated discussion at the end of each presentation. Abstracts on similar topics will be grouped together within parallel sessions.

Digital projector and computer with PowerPoint software are provided.

Rapid Fire Oral Presentation

The format of five Rapid Fire Sessions allows for eight or twelve 7-minute time slots for each presentation. The presentation should be 4 minutes plus 3 minutes for questions and discussion. A maximum of 6 PowerPoint slides is allowed per presentation which summarise research findings, methodology, research in progress or professional or clinical program development. This type of session provides the audience with a rapid and intensive overview of current research or program development. As the number of opportunities for this type of presentation is limited, only abstracts displaying a clear, single message will be accepted.

Authors may also present a Poster to expand on their rapid fire presentation if they wish.

The time limit of 7 minutes will be strictly enforced by the chairpersons.

Digital projector and computer with PowerPoint software are provided.

The Program Committee may also invite those nominating to present a Poster to also present a Rapid Fire presentation if the information presented is considered important.

Poster Presentation

A poster offers the opportunity to present research findings, special projects, programme descriptions, educational materials, equipment or case reports, in an informal way. The presenter/s will have opportunities to interact with participants and to answer questions. Poster presenters will be expected to be in attendance at assigned times.

Poster presenters will be required to prepare a display to bring to the Conference and which will be mounted on a display panel. The dimensions of the posters should be in "AO" size or no more than 84cm wide by 119cm high in portrait style only. Posters larger than this size will not be able to be displayed.

Use the poster format for your presentation when your material can easily be communicated visually. Each presentation should make a unified, coherent statement. Materials, both textual and visual, should be of professional quality and be clearly legible from a distance of 1.5 metres (five feet). Graphs, diagrams and photographs enhance presentation. Text should be limited to brief statements. Posters are exhibited for informal browsing with opportunities for individual discussion with people attending the Conference.
