National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences #

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) is a multidisciplinary institute for patient care and academic pursuit in the field of mental health and neurosciences. NIMHANS is synonymous with providing high standards of clinical care, quality training and cutting-edge research in the frontier areas. Combined priorities for comprehensive patient care, manpower development and research, stem from the commitment to an integrated and multidisciplinary approach which addresses societal needs. The advances in genomics, computational neuroscience, mathematical modelling, neuroimaging, molecular biology and a host of new disciplines including public health,  are being translated to help  humanity in need and promote the growth of knowledge. A special feature of this Institute since its inception is the combination of research and training with promotive, preventive and curative aspects of clinical services in Mental Health and Neurosciences. The manpower development programmes at NIMHANS reflect the strides in fusing together and nurturing behavioural sciences, neurosciences, basic biological sciences and ancient health systems. The Institute provides inputs to the Central and State Governments in areas including the establishment of new psychiatric facilities, improvement of existing facilities and strategizing a national programme for mental health. The Institute has emerged as the nodal centre for evolving national policies in the field of mental health, neurosciences and injury. This exemplifies a unique model of successful partnership between the Union and State Governments (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare), NIMHANS has made significant progress and is a centre for excellence in mental health and neuroscience in the country. NIMHANS has produced more than 1,000 Psychiatrists, about 600 Clinical Psychologists and Psychiatric Nurses so far—who are working in both national and international contexts. . The Central Government recognized its eminent academic position, growth and contributions, and declared it a ‘Deemed University’ in 1994. In 2012, NIMHANS was conferred the status of an ‘Institute of National Importance’.

Event Overview
Welcome message:

Dear Colleague,

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the XI International Congress of the International Neuropsychiatric Association and the TS Srinivasan-NIMHANS Knowledge Conclave, a joint meeting in Bengaluru, India, that will take place on 15th, 16th & 17th February 2018. The 3-day event has the contemporary theme “Neuropsychiatry- A Global Approach” the core of our effort being to identify and discuss important transcultural issues in Neuropsychiatry. That the meeting is taking place in India makes it extremely relevant, as “Neuropsychiatry” remains a little known specialty in many parts of the developing world. The International Neuropsychiatric Association would like to take this opportunity to put on display the cutting edge of global knowledge in this field and its relevance to clinical practice, research and policy in different parts of the world. That the meeting will be in NIMHANS is also fortuitous; NIMHANS being India’s premier institution guides research and policy with respect to mental health and neurosciences in India, a country with the world’s second largest population and today the world’s fastest developing economy.

This congress will be of great relevance to professionals across disciplines. Apart from those who practice, teach & research neuropsychiatry or have a special interest in the field, behavioural neurologists, biological psychiatrists, clinical neurologists and psychiatrists, psychologists, neuroscientists, rehabilitators, public health & epidemiology professionals, nurses, social work professionals, complimentary and alternative health professionals and all others in healthcare interested in mental health and neurosciences, will be warmly welcomed to this forum; to exchange ideas and contribute to the global knowledge pool at this expanding and exciting interface.

We expect to have several types of academic and cultural activities taking place as part of this enriched program.

Plenary lectures in which we will address the cutting edge of transcultural issues over two days.

A series of symposia on clinical topics of practice relevance

Invited Symposia by key Neuropsychiatry expert groups and organisations from the UK, USA, Australia and other countries, putting on display the breadth of global knowledge.

Award Sessions which will feature world leaders in the field

Selected Poster Sessions on all three days of the Congress, giving participants ample opportunity to present their own original work.

Registration will include lunch and coffee breaks on all three days and an evening meal on the first day. In addition there will be a Gala Dinner for all registrants on day two, enabling a generous sampling of both local culture and cuisine. The venue for all activities is the NIMHANS Convention Centre located on Hosur Road in the heart of Bengaluru.

Bengaluru a cantonment of British India, is India’s information technology capital. A bustling metro, it has an excellent international airport with connections around the world. A city of gardens and lakes, it is pleasant and temperate in February with temperature in the 20’s. Mysore a cultural and historical capital of India is about 2 hours from Bengaluru. In addition there are a number of historical places of interest, within striking distance, ideal locations for pre and post congress tours. In addition, the state of Karnataka of which Bengaluru is the capital, boasts of several wildlife sanctuaries and coffee and tea estates abound in the surrounding hill regions. The Congress thus brings you to an important and interesting part of India, demonstrating amply the rich diversity of our country.

We eagerly look forward to welcoming you to Bengaluru and to your active participation in this meeting, which promises to be a feast for the brain, mind and soul. See you (t)here!
