Event Overview
Welcome message:

On behalf of Singapore’s Bone Marrow Donor Programme (BMDP), we look forward to welcoming you to the “Little Red Dot” that we call home. We promise you blue skies and sunshine and if that isn’t enough, then we have confirmed a very exciting agenda with some excellent speakers from the region and beyond.

Please mark your diary and make sure to join us for the 11th International Donor Registry Conference (IDRC) and World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA) Working Group meetings from 30 May to 2 June 2016 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore.

Singapore presents a complex contradiction in attitudes towards bone marrow donation as the traditional values of our multi-racial community conflict with the impact of social media and modern connectivity. The challenges we face reaching into Singapore’s minority communities will reflect those experienced by every multi-racial community around the world, and we look forward to sharing the insights we have gained.

Outside the conference agenda, Singapore is a global metropolis where East meets West in a melting pot of different cultures most evident in our love for food and celebration of traditional ethnic festivals throughout the year.

Or consider exploring the region; tropical beaches, historical temples, or trek the jungles of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand - all just a short flight away.

Watch out for more details over the coming months around the conference programme, which promises to be provocative and stimulating, and of course a social programme featuring the best of Singaporean culture and cuisine.

We look forward to welcoming you to the vibrant city of Singapore in 2016.

Yours sincerely,

Jane Prior

Chief Executive, BMDP

General Info

Histogenetics, based in New York, USA, is an international leader in DNA sequence-based tissue typing (SBT) services and serves clients around the globe.  Histogenetics mastered Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Third generation sequencing technologies (PacBio) for routine HLA typing for ultimate resolution and quality at high volume.

Identification of high resolution tissue type is crucial in determining a suitable match in tissue and organ transplant.  The better the match the more successful is the transplant.  Histogenetics has been working with the world’s largest donor centers, National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), German Donor Center (DKMS), Office of Naval research (ONR)and many other international registries.  It is Histogenetics’ goal to help patients by applying its cutting edge technology to speed up the transplant process and saving lives otherwise lost if the process were slower.

We are entering the era of personalized medicine and knowing each individual’s genetic makeup will determine how the treatment should be tailored for each person.  Histogenetics is currently studying other genes that might elucidate the complex genetic basis of health and disease.
