Event Overview
Welcome message:

NEW!  IGH Travel Award Opportunity for Canadian-based trainees was just launched by the Institute of Gender and Health (IGH) for graduate and postdoctoral students (enrolled in Canadian Universities) to attend the second joint meeting of the OSSD and the IGM. The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $100,000, enough to support at least 25 travel awards valued at up to $4,000 each! The IGH travel award deadline is January 14, 2019. Click here for application instructions and eligibility criteria. Apply now.

NEW!  NIH ORWH Science Policy Scholar Travel Award is a new opportunity for the Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) and OSSD to work together to further turn sex as a biological variable (#SABV) into policy change. This will be awarded to an applicant to support the development of junior investigators focused on women and sex/gender differences, who also has an interest in research policy. Examples include, but are not limited to: (1) studies of the effects of these policies in promoting the research, (2) identification of policy gaps that might promote such research and projection of their effects, or (3) identification of specific research disciplines and/or research topic areas where more work is needed to promote women and sex/gender differences. An ORWH award of up to $3,000 will be available to support the travel of the selected NIH ORWH Science Policy Scholar whose OSSD abstract on women or sex/gender differences policy is accepted for a poster, oral session, or symposium at the 2019 annual meeting. Application opens October 15, 2018! The deadline for NIH ORWH Science Policy Scholar Travel Award is February 1, 2019. The award recipient will be announced on March 15, 2019. See further details, instructions, and eligibility conditions.

The Elizabeth Young New Investigator Award is awarded to an abstract presenter whose research is of high quality and deemed worthy of an oral presentation.  These winners will present their abstract as an oral presentation in a special symposium at the annual meeting.  PLEASE NOTE: individuals that are not selected for the Elizabeth Young New Investigator Award (oral presentation) will automatically be considered for a poster presentation.  If you would like to be considered for the Elizabeth Young New Investigator Award and an oral presentation, please select this option at the time of abstract submission, on the abstract submission form. Elizabeth Young Investigators will be awarded $1,000 each.  Awardees will be notified on February 27, 2019 of their award.

A limited number of Travel Awards for OSSD 2019 will be awarded to trainee members presenting their high-quality posters at the 2019 meeting in Washington, DC. In order to be considered for a travel award, your abstract must be submitted by February 1, 2019. Please indicate that you would like to be considered for the travel award at the time of abstract submission, on the abstract form. Awardees will be notified on February 27, 2019. Exact award amounts and numbers will be dependent on funding.

The prestigious Florence B. Haseltine Best Poster Award is given to the best poster presentation by a new investigator (see additional details). Abstracts submitted after February 1, 2019 can still be considered for the Florence P. Haseltine Best Poster Award, but cannot be considered for a travel award (see above). If the presenting author would like to be considered for the Florence B. Haseltine Best Poster Award competition, please select this option at the time of abstract submission, on the abstract form. Awardees will be awarded at the 2019 OSSD/IGM Joint Meeting Awards Reception.
