After attending this activity, participants will demonstrate the ability to:  

    • Evaluate the treatment options for the patient with congenital abnormalities of the coronary arteries, based on current research presented at this conference.
    • Prepare an appropriate plan of care for each patient with congenital abnormalities of the coronary arteries, based on clinical presentation.
    • Describe the echocardiographic features of congenital abnormalities of the coronary arteries.
    • Formulate an educational plan to enhance the skills and knowledge of the multi-disciplinary team in caring for patients with congenital abnormalities of the coronary arteries.
    • Correctly identify cardiac anatomy and the cardiac morphology of congenital abnormalities of the coronary arteries through examination of morphological specimens of human hearts with these lesions.
    • Define the ethical issues related to congenital abnormalities of the coronary arteries and other rare cardiac lesions, especially in environments with limited resources.
    • Discuss the challenges of caring for adults with congenital abnormalities of the coronary arteries.
    • Describe the clinical assessment, ICU management, and implications for education of the patient and family for patients with congenital abnormalities of the coronary arteries.
    • Apply strategies to standardize practice and care across institutions to improve patient outcomes.
    • Describe strategies for collaborative multi-institutional research within a heart institute model to increase quality of data.

Submission Info

The selection committee will invite authors of the 5 top scoring abstracts to make a 5 minute oral presentation (3 minutes + 2 minutes Q & A with a maximum of 6 PowerPoint slides) on their research on Monday, February 9 between 12:15 – 1:15 pm.  Details will be provided upon invitation. 

 

Poster Presenters will be notified by December 15, 2014 if your abstract has been accepted for poster presentation during the symposium. Authors of accepted abstracts will be asked to submit a poster (no larger than 4 x 6 feet) of their project for display at the conference. Presenters of accepted posters will be given a 20% discount on conference registration fees.

 

Posters will be displayed throughout the symposium.  Poster set up will be from 6:30 – 9:30 am on Friday, February 6 and take down will be from 12:30 – 3:30 pm on Monday, February 9. Posters must be taken down by 3:30 pm on February 9. 

 

Further instructions will be provided upon abstract acceptance.
