CCIB – Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona #

The CCIB - Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona came into being in 2004 with the 2004 Universal Forum of Cultures. Following the Forum, management of the Convention Centre was subsequently awarded to GL events CCIB SL, a company created specifically for this purpose. The corporate form of the CCIB is therefore that of a Limited Liability Company (LLC), with the following shareholder structure: GL events: 80% Barcelona City Council: 12% Association of Barcelona Hoteliers: 8% GL events, established in Lyon in 1978, is a world leader in the events sector. In 2011, this group operated a global network of 91 event locations, employed a workforce of 3,700 and generated turnover of 783 million euros. The CCIB’s client profile is composed of three main types: Agencies specialised in staging events for other organisations Private companies which organise an event directly Associations active in specific fields of the knowledge sector. At the CCIB we are able to organise events of any type, whether local or international. Given the characteristics of the Convention Centre, however, we offer outstanding capacity for the organisation of large-scale events with a global reach. These also have a positive impact on the city of Barcelona regarding hotel occupation, catering and other services related to the event. In this regard, 83% of our turnover is generated by international events attended by visitors from all over the world. It is also noteworthy that 42% of our clients are from other countries. We would like to offer you a selection of the events organised by the CCIB since it opened for business up to 2011, as well as - with the kind permission of the respective organisers - notable events already confirmed for the future.

Event Overview
Welcome message:

Letter from the Chairs

On behalf of the entire Scientific Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to invite you to theESMO 15th World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer in Barcelona, Spain from 3-6 July 2013.

This Congress is the premier global event in the field, encompassing malignancies affecting every component of the gastrointestinal tract and aspects related to the care of patients with gastrointestinal cancer, including screening, diagnosis and the latest management options for common and uncommon tumors. It has been endorsed by leading professional societies and organizations.

With the focus on personalized therapy, multidisciplinary management and unraveling molecular mechanisms, the World Congress will educate and update the broad range of experts who participate in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers, providing a clear overview for treatment. Over 60 expert specialists will lead the sessions and meet with participants in small targeted groups, making the scientific agenda the most comprehensive and most effective in addressing the educational needs of physicians. Thousands of participants attend each year, and their comments indicate that the update they receive is of immediate relevance to their practices.

Presentation of cutting-edge research has become one of the highlights of the World Congress, offering opportunities for researchers worldwide to interact with colleagues and share their endeavors with the healthcare community. In 2012, over 350 abstracts were accepted for presentation and publication in a special supplement to the Annals of Oncology. We invite you to participate in this year’s meeting by submitting an abstract to be considered for presentation.

The ESMO 15th World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer promises to continue the tradition of excellence and stimulate the interest of its participants. We look forward to seeing you in July 2013 in Barcelona for what will be a most important and most memorable scientific meeting.
