Event Overview
Welcome message:

Dear friends and colleagues,

In 1985, the first European Burns Association Congress was held in Groningen, the Netherlands. It is my pleasure to announce, that the 30th anniversary, the 16th European Burns Association Congress 2015, will take place in Hannover, Germany! I am honored to invite all colleagues to Hannover, from 16 September to 19 September 2015.

I would like to thank you for having supported our and Germany’s candidacy! It is a great honor for me personally and for the German Society for Medical Treatment of Burns (DGV) to host this prestigious and renowned congress.

The conference serves to disperse the most current information in science of burns to experts in European and other foreign countries. The EBA congress group, the DGV, the local congress team and me are looking forward to organize a challenging and interesting program.

We will soon start to make a first agenda for the meeting and provide you with the necessary details of registration and abstract submission. Please keep in mind that early booking will help both you and us to have a smooth preparation and a successful meeting. We would be most grateful for any suggestions and help and will therefore contact you again.

I hope to welcome you all in Hanover in 2015.

Yours sincerely,

Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Peter Vogt

President of the EBA

Tagungspräsident Prof. Dr. med. Dirk Schadendorf
Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Peter M. Vogt

Dear Reader,

Burns are one of the worst injuries that the human body can suffer. Accidents in which people sustain severe burns happen time and again. Such incidents vividly show us the physical and emotional stress and the challenges that result from such a traumatic experience. Quite apart from the radical changes caused by pain or scars, burns also make the victims insecure and anxious about the change in their appearance.

The consequences of severe injuries mean drastic changes in all aspects of the victim’s life. How burns victims manage to cope with these changes also depends on the attitude of the people around them; unfortunately, all too often they encounter prejudice and uncertainty. It is therefore not uncommon for people who have suffered burns also to suffer a loss of confidence in themselves and in their social environment. Many burn victims simply do not know how they can continue to live with their scarred body, either physically or mentally. Accordingly, the medical profession and nursing staff play a key role for restoring not only their physical health, but also the quality of their lives. This is a field of medicine which calls for an exceptionally high level of professional and personal commitment, day in, day out and this, in turn, involves an enormous degree of mental and physical stress for the staff. I have immense respect for everyone involved in this process.

Hannover is an excellent choice of venue for a broad treatment of this highly complex subject. Firstly, Professor Peter Vogt, Director of the Department of Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery of Hannover Medical School (MHH), is Pre¬sident of the European Burns Association. Secondly, the Intensive Care Burns Unit at MHH, which provides supramaximal care for patients who have suffered severe burns, is regarded as one of the most modern centres in Germany. The Burns Unit treats patients from far beyond the region of Hannover and plays a key role in the medical environment of Lower Saxony.

I wish the event every success and hope that everyone who attends will enjoy interesting presentations and discussions.
