Message from the President Of the International Society for Burn Injuries
As President of the ISBI it is my great honor and sincere pleasure to welcome you to the 17th Congress of the International Society for Burn Injuries to be held in Sydney Australia. Melbourne Australia was the sight of the 7th Congress held in 1986. As in our previous ISBI congress’s there are several plenary, concurrent and poster sessions with topics of interest for every participant and every professional category of the multi-disciplinary burn team. New to this congress will be the launching of two all day hands-on workshops devoted to rehabilitation and nursing. These will occur on Saturday, 11 October 2014. As well there will be the addition of new topics such as Quality and Outcome Measurements in the Care of the Burn Patients and an Ethics Symposium. We will also once again be awarding several prizes and awards. These include six Young Investigator Prizes, the Baskent University/ISBI Nursing Award, and the Zagame Rehabilitation Specialist Award. More details for these awards can be found on both the ISBI and ISBI 2014 Congress web sites. The tremendous efforts of our Program Chair, Peter Maitz, the local organizing committee and the program committee comprised of international leaders in burn care will provide a program that reflects current problems and represents a collection of scientific, educational and practical information.
In addition to the scientific program, the social program will provide an opportunity to experience all of the wonderful amenities of Sydney. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to renew friendships and develop new relations with colleagues of similar minds that will be valuable in future care of those with burn injuries as we continue to succeed “one world one standard of care”.
I would like to express my sincerest thanks to Dr. Mehmet Haberal who is once again providing unbending personal commitment to the success of the ISBI and this congress. His generous financial support will provide reimbursement of registration fees for approximately 35 participants from low income countries.
I look forward to seeing all of you in Sydney in October 2014.
Richard L. Gamelli, M.D.
