Egmond aan Zee
Egmond aan Zee is a small seaside resort is in the middle of the dunes. At the foot of the lighthouse, the statue of a lion symbolises the heroism of Lieutenant Van Speijk who, near Anvers, on February 5, 1831 blew up his gunboat and all its occupants rather than let it fall into the hands of the Belgians.
The resort is one of the many beach towns in the province of Noord Holland of the Netherlands. This province wraps around Amsterdam and boasts some of the Netherlands' most classic sights. It includes elegant, old-world cities like Haarlem, fine sandy beaches all along its west coast and including the beach at Egmond aan Zee, quaint cheese-producing towns as Alkmaar and iconic windmills.
Despite the Netherlands being known for its wet temperate climate, the weather in this region in June is generally sunny, averaging about 19ºC.
Hotel Zuiderduin is a luxurious and hospitable hotel and is situated at 100 meters from the beach. The hotel has a cosy English pub and 8 bowling alleys, including spectacular light shows and an illuminated dance floor.
Guests can also relax in the Turkish or Japanese baths or in the hotel's sauna, all free of charge. It is also possible to make an appointment for one of the many treatments available at the Spa Centre. Sporty guests can make use of the gym facilities and the squash court. The hotel has a swimming pool as well as a separate children's pool. Guests can make free use of the heated swimming pool, the massage-jacuzzi and the gym.
