Welcome message:
On behalf of the New Zealand Foot and Ankle Society it is my pleasure to invite you to Napier, Hawkes Bay’s Art Deco ‘Capital’, for the 2014 NZOA Foot and Ankle Society Meeting.
 
The Napier War Memorial Conference Centre is a great conference venue, right on the beach in Napier, located within 200 metres of 2 hotels, and 2 minutes walk into Napier city, 10 minutes to the airport. The conference dinner is planned for Elephant Hill Winery with stunning views of Cape Kidnappers. There are abundant wineries to visit, cycle paths, and several golf courses. 
 
We are fortunate to welcome two inspirational invited speakers, Chris Coetzee from USA and Kim Slater from Australia. There will also be the opportunity for delegates to present free papers and discuss cases.

Dr. J. Chris Coetzee, M.D. Mb ChB

Board-certified orthopedic surgeon, J. Chris Coetzee earned his medical degree from the University of Pretoria School of Medicine in South Africa.  He completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Stellenbosch, located in Cape Town, South Africa, his trauma fellowship in Davos, Switzerland and a foot and ankle fellowship at the University of Washington and the Harborview Medical Center, in Seattle, WA, USA.
 
Dr. Coetzee sees patients at Minnesota Orthopedic Sports Medicine Institute (MOSMI) at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Edina, MN, USA. He serves as a fellowship faculty member for the MOSMI/ Fairview Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship program. He serves as a board member-at-large for the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) and is an associate editor of the Foot and Ankle International Journal and reviewer to the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and several other orthopedic journals.  He is the Chairman of the AOFAS Education committee, overseeing all the educational activities of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. He is also a member of the AAOS CME committee ensuring ongoing education for all orthopedic surgeons.
 
His special orthopedic interests are foot and ankle reconstruction, trauma injuries and sports medicine.  He is a published author in numerous peer-reviewed journals on such topics as total ankle arthroplasties, talar osteochondral defects, lisfranc injuries and more. Current research interests include total ankle arthroplasties, ankle fusions and subtalar fusions.  Dr. Coetzee was named one of the top 23 Foot and Ankle surgeons in the US by Orthopedics Today in 2012 and 2013 and has been nominated as a "Top Doc" by the Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine in 2013.
 

Dr Kim Slater

Dr Kim Slater specialises in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle.
 
Dr Slater graduated from Sydney University medical school in 1980. Following post graduate training at RPA Hospital he commenced orthopaedic surgical training which was completed in 1988. He then undertook sub-speciality training as a Fellow in Knee Surgery with Dr Mervyn Cross and Dr Leo Pinczewski before travelling to Seattle to undertake a Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery with Dr Sig Hansen in 1991.
