The Association for Psychological Science and the members of the Initiative for Integrative Psychological Science invite the international community of psychological scientists and related disciplines to a major new event: The International Convention of Psychological Science.
ICPS is the culmination of efforts by APS and an international network of organizations and individual scientists to stimulate scientific advances that are integrative; that is, in which investigators attack scientific problems by drawing broadly on research conducted at multiple levels of analysis and in multiple branches of psychological science, the cognitive sciences, the neurosciences, and other related disciplines. The initiative has been designed, in essence, to surmount artificial disciplinary boundaries that can impede scientific progress and to highlight areas of investigation in which those boundaries have already been overcome.
site of the ICPS in March 2015
These efforts respond to developments in our rapidly changing field. Increasingly, challenges in psychological science can only be met by boundary-spanning investigations that address a phenomenon with diverse methods and at multiple levels of analysis. Such efforts require collaboration across academic disciplines and geographic boundaries. Seizing these opportunities requires a global effort and the involvement of the full range of disciplines, from those that study societies and cultures to those that investigate genetics and neural mechanisms.

Located on the Damrak, in the historic center of Amsterdam, the Beurs van Berlage was designed as a commodity exchange by architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage. Berlage designed the building with an emphasis on sweeping planes and open plan interiors to modify the styles of the past. Constructed between 1896 and 1903, the building is made of red brick, with an iron and glass roof. The Beurs van Berlage influenced many modernist architects, in particular functionalists and the Amsterdam School.
Today the building is regarded as a leading design for the 20th century, and Berlage as the father of Dutch modern architecture. On 2 February 2002 the civil ceremony of the wedding of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Máxima Zorreguieta took place in the Beurs van Berlage. The Beurs van Berlage is a true “gesamtkunstwerk”, in which architecture is combined with the art of painting, sculpture and poetry.
Submission Info
Deadline for Submission
Symposium submissions are accepted through midnight 17 September 2014 Pacific Time (GMT -7). Poster submissions are accepted through midnight 30 September 2014, Pacific Time (GMT -7).
Proposal Review, Selection, and Status Notification
All submissions must represent completed work (i.e., please do not submit a proposal if the data are still pending). Non-empirical research should not be submitted as a poster. Submissions should discuss research that has not been presented or published elsewhere. All submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by members of the Program Committee. While the goal of ICPS is to highlight and support integrative science, it is not a requirement that your research submission be integrative in nature.
Symposium submitters will be notified of the decision regarding their submission in mid October. If accepted, submitters will be notified of the schedule for the symposium in mid November. If the Program Committee recommends that a symposium submission be considered for a poster presentation instead, the submitter will be notified of this recommendation and each author will be offered the opportunity to submit individual presentations as posters in the Call for Submissions.
Poster submitters will be notified of the decision regarding their poster on a rolling basis, and if accepted, will be notified of the schedule for their poster in mid November.
With all proposal formats, including posters, the Program Committee retains the right to request additional information, to ask that changes be made to improve a presentation, or to decline to schedule a presentation the Committee does not find relevant to the meeting or that does not follow the guidelines for submission. No changes can be made after proposals have been submitted unless the Committee has specifically requested that change.
Submitter Responsibilities
- Only the submitter of the proposal will receive correspondence relating to the submission. The submitter must notify all presenters and authors of the status of the proposal, scheduling, and other relevant information. The submitter must notify all presenters that they must be registered for the Convention in order to present. The name of the proposal submitter will not appear in any program unless the submitter elects to be listed as an author.
- The commitment of all participants must be secured in advance of proposal submission.
- For posters, an individual may only be the first author on one submission, with the exception noted below. An individual may participate as a co-author/co-presenter on multiple posters, and may participate in multiple symposia. Exception: An individual may be the first author on an ICPS poster submission as well as a teaching poster.
