The biennial AORTIC International Conference on Cancer in Africa is hosted by the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC). The 2017 conference will take place from 7 to 10 November 2017 in Kigali, Rwanda. AORTIC is a pan-African, bilingual, multi-disciplinary organisation dedicated to the promotion of cancer care and control in Africa.
AORTIC’s key objectives are to further research relating to cancers prevalent in Africa and to facilitate and support training initiatives in oncology for health-care workers. Their research and training covers an array of issues related to cancer control in Africa such as:
National Cancer Control Programmes
Establishing, advocating and training for Cancer Registration across the continent
Strengthening health care delivery systems, in line with African Union policy
AORTIC strives to unite the African continent in achieving its goal of a cancer-free Africa and seeks to make a positive impact throughout the region through collaboration with health ministries and global cancer organisations.
All fees are displayed in both United States Dollars (USD) and South African Rands (ZAR). Credit card transactions will be processed in South African Rands (ZAR) only.

The AORTIC 2017 Conference Secretariat has selected a range of hotels for participants to choose from and has negotiated guaranteed, preferential rates. There is an option suited to every participant’s preferences and budget, from good 3-star accommodation to a world-class 5-star establishment.
Please note that the hotels listed are also those from which transportation will be provided to and from the meeting venue. Participants who opt not to stay in any of these hotels will not be entitled to transportation facilities provided by the conference.

Participants are welcome to make their own accommodation arrangements at a B&B, hostel or guesthouse. Please note the Conference Secretariat can only make bookings at the official conference hotels and cannot be responsible for accommodation booked independently by participants. Participants are encouraged to book accommodation close to the conference venue, the Kigali Convention Centre (KCC).
Guaranteed Rates
All reservations are made on a “first come, first served” basis. The stated room rates are valid through 15 September 2017 and availability will be regularly updated. Thereafter, no rates or availability can be guaranteed and requests will be dealt with according to the current availability and rates.

The AORTIC 2017 Late Breakers Abstract Submission Portal is now open until Friday, 28 July 2017. Only research/work that was not ready to be submitted as an abstract during the General Call for Abstracts (which closed 28 April 2017), may be submitted as a Late Breaker Abstract.
No submissions will be considered from Saturday 29 July 2017 onwards. The submission of a Late Breaker Abstract is not a guarantee of inclusion in the programme. Submitted Late Breaker Abstracts will be reviewed blind by the Scientific Programme Committee and given an aggregate score. Top scoring abstracts will then be allocated to available oral and poster presentation places in the programme. The number of places available for Late Breaker Abstracts is subject to the cancellation or withdrawal of abstract presentations allocated from the General Call for Abstracts.

GENERAL CALL FOR ABSTRACTS CLOSED 28 APRIL
AORTIC 2017 will be an excellent opportunity to present and discuss your research in a multidisciplinary forum of cancer experts. You are invited to submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation; You are invited to submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation; download the abstract specifications in ENGLISH and FRENCH.
Abstract submissions for AORTIC 2017 were accepted from 15 February 2017. The deadline for submission was 28 April 2017 and applicants and authors will be notified of the outcome in mid-June 2017.
Carefully check your details and abstract, as it will be published “as is” with no further editing by the Programme Secretariat of Committee. If you would like to make any changes, follow the instructions in your abstract confirmation email. Changes to abstracts are permitted until 28 April.
Accepted abstracts
The AORTIC 2017 programme will comprise a mix of plenary sessions, hot topics, technical sessions, round tables, solution sessions, workshops, posters, and focus groups.
An accepted abstract will be presented orally or as a poster. Oral abstracts will be grouped by topic and presented in the Free Communication of Abstracts sessions. Presenters will have eight minutes for presentation followed by two minutes for discussion.
Authors chosen for a poster session will be given two days to display their poster, with a dedicated poster session.
While effort will be made to accommodate author’s preference in presentation format (oral or poster), the final decision will rest with the Scientific Programme Committee.
Successful presenting authors must register by 30 June 2017 or they will forfeit their place in the programme.
All accepted abstracts will be published in the electronic conference proceedings under the submitting author’s name.
