2017 NEW ZEALAND FOOT AND ANKLE SOCIETY MEETING
The New Zealand Foot and Ankle Society extends an invitation to attend the 2017 meeting to be held on Waiheke Island. The conference venue is at the Waiheke Island Resort on the 18th and 19th November.
Waiheke Island is the jewel in the crown of the stunning Hauraki Gulf. Waiheke, in the Maori language, means cascading or ebbing water and from the moment you cross the sparkling waters of the Waitemata harbour, you will start to enjoy the world-class wines, freshly pressed olive oils, sample the wonderful flavours of the local cuisine, and relax on the pristine beaches.
The guest speaker confirmed thus far is Prof Ian Winson from Bristol UK. There will be a welcoming drinks at Tantalus Estate on the Friday evening and Dinner at Mudbrick Winery on the Saturday.Hosted by

Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon with a Special Interest in Foot and Ankle Surgery
Ian is serving a year as President of the British Orthopaedic Association through 2016 and 2017. He has been a council and executive member of the BOA since 2010. His clinical appointment is to the Avon Orthopaedic Centre Southmead Hospital Bristol UK. and to Bristol and Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic Spire Hospital, Bristol. He was Specialty Director of the AOC for 5 years. He is academically affiliated to Bristol University, as an Honorary Senior Lecturer. In the past he has been President of the European Foot and Ankle Society 2006-8 and President British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society 1994. He qualified from Sheffield University in 1978 and Accredited as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1989. His clinical interests are in all aspects of Foot and Ankle Surgery, particularly Ankle Arthritis, deformity surgery and Trauma. This is reflected in his research interests with over 60 papers largely covering all aspects of Foot and Ankle care and including basic science studies particularly on the Kinematics of the Ankle and Foot.
Much of his basic science research was undertaken as a Research fellow at the Karolinska Hospital Stockholm 1989. Publications from that time continued to flow into the 2000’s. It was here he looked at in vivo Kinematics of the foot (which involved having 2.4 hoffman pins stuck in his foot and then walking through a motion analysis setup. He is one of the directors of Foot and Ankle Worldwide an education development company.
He is married to Stephanie and has two children and one grandchild. His daughter is a university lecturer researches the risk of volcanoes erupting, something that gives the whole family a sense of perspective. His son is an orthopaedic trainee in Wales. His two-year-old granddaughter is teaching him Welsh, she is not happy with his progress.
Dr Andrew Wines specialises in arthroscopic, minimally invasive, trauma and reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle in adults and children.
He was educated at Knox Grammar School and graduated from the University of Sydney in 1994. He was Senior Student at St Andrew’s College and on the boards of the University Union and Sports Union. After obtaining his fellowship in orthopaedic surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2002 he travelled to Dublin, Bristol and Oxford for subspecialty training in paediatric and adult foot and ankle surgery.
He is a Churchill Fellow, on the executive of the NSW Australian Orthopaedic Association and secretary of the Medical Benevolent Association of NSW.
He is married to an Anaesthetist and has 2 primary school aged children.

He operates at North Shore Private Hospital, Castlecrag Private Hospital, The Mater, Sydney Adventist Hospital, Dubbo Private Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital, Ryde Hospital and Dubbo Base Hospital.
