MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Diabetic Limb Salvage Conference is a multidisciplinary team approach meeting that provides each member of the health care team with the education and resources needed to heal wounds and prevent amputations. It features a prominent international  faculty that promotes the importance of a multispecialty approach in limb salvage. The course is designed for health care practitioners of all specialties and promotes an evidence-based approach with emphasis on take home points, techniques, and functional outcomes. The meeting format will include didactic lectures, specialty symposia, and video surgical case demonstrations for the purpose of providing an interactive learning experience.

Target Audience

This conference is intended for diabetes and wound healing specialists, vascular surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons,  podiatric surgeons, plastic surgeons, endocrinologists, family physicians, infectious disease specialists, cardiovascular  and endovascular specialists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, nurses, peripheral nerve specialists, certified diabetes educators, and the entire team involved in diabetic foot and limb salvage.

Conference Learning Objectives

This course will enhance the background, knowledge, and skills of attendees in the science of diabetic limb salvage. At the conclusion of this CME activity, participants should be able to:

Analyze the public health crisis of diabetic limb loss

Recognize the challenge of neuropathy and non-compliance

Examine the options in vascular interventional technology and techniques, both surgical and endovascular

Discuss the complexities of biomechanics, limb salvage, the problem wound, wound based infection, preserving limb length

Cite the financial and social impact of diabetic limb salvage and amputation

Integrate into their practices the knowledge obtained through the didactic lectures, panel discussions, and video surgical cases

Editorial Guidelines for Abstract Submission

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is pleased to invite you to submit an Abstract for presentation at the Diabetic Limb Salvage Conference. Abstracts for the poster session will be selected on the basis of their scientific merit and content quality. This is your chance to interact with surgeons and diabetes and wound healing specialists, and to educate and expose your work to leaders in your field.

We invite you to participate by submitting a 250 word abstract, which should describe work with relevance to diabetic foot and limb salvage.

All material presented in the abstract must be current, relevant and free from ethical bias. Company logos of the supporting company are prohibited on any part of the presentation. All abstracts received will be considered to be presented as POSTER ABSTRACTS during the conference.

Submission Deadline: Abstracts must be submitted by February 16, 2018

Abstract Acceptance

Acceptance notification will be sent via email by Friday March 2, 2018

Abstracts are selected on the basis of scientific merit.

Expenses associated with the presentation of an abstract are the responsibility of the presenter.

At least one presenting/submitting author per abstract must register and pay. Presenting fellow’s, resident’s, or student’s registration will be waived only if accompanied by appropriate documentation from the program director.
