Event Overview
Welcome message:

By demand, the “Acing the GI Board Exam” authors have converted their best-selling and time-tested books into this acclaimed weekend board review course. That’s right. All you need is a weekend. Mind-numbing lectures are strictly prohibited; only high-yield interactive vignettes are allowed. Let’s get this done!

With rave reviews at the completely packed inaugural course in 2015:

“Excellent and engaging without any lulls”

“Great format and would strongly recommend to others!”

“Quick refresher & great for Board certification!”

“Fantastic. This will be a huge success in years to come.”

“Let’s do it again!”

When you’re done, you’ll know…

• Answers to board review stuff you always forget

• The 10 stats facts and epidemiology nuggets you’ve

avoided (but need to know)

Plus answers to classic “tough stuff” clinical vignettes in:

• Esophagus

• Stomach and duodenum

• Liver

• Biliary tract

• Pancreas

• Small intestine and colon

Course Description and Statement of Need

Based on the best-selling board review textbook series written by the conference speakers, this highly interactive, vignette-based meeting will meet the educational needs of practicing gastroenterologists and gastroenterology Fellows who wish to test their knowledge in preparation for earning points toward the American Board of Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program, or who simply want to improve their knowledge of GI diseases and disorders and enhance the quality of their practice.

The course will follow the blueprint developed by ABIM. Each content category – esophagus, stomach/duodenum, liver, biliary tract, pancreas, small intestine and colon – will explore anatomy, development, function/physiology; symptoms/clinical presentation; and the diseases and disorders in each. Participants will have the option of earning up to 20 MOC points with successful completion of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) Self-Assessment modules.

A distinguishing feature of this conference is that it will be administered over only a day and a half – considerably shorter than traditional board review courses. The course directors recognize that long and detailed discussions that are not directly relevant to board and re-certification exams should be eliminated. Conversely, many board review manuals provide lists and bullet points that lack sufficient background and context. To address the needs of busy gastroenterologists, this conference will present high-yield information in the most rational, relevant, and contextually appropriate format.  This is a time-tested approach that had led to wide dissemination and success of the speakers’ own textbook series, which will serve as a blueprint for this new educational offering.
