Welcome Message from the President of Asian Australasian Federation of Pain Societies (AAFPS)

AAFPS-president-photo
Dear friends and colleagues

On behalf of the Asian Australasian Federation of Pain Societies, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 2nd Asian Congress on Pain (AAFPS 2014) to be held from 27 to 30 March 2014 in Taipei, Taiwan.

Pain is a major healthcare problem worldwide, and particularly in Asia Pacific where it has long been neglected due to a lack of understanding and awareness among the healthcare professionals, health policy makers and general public. The theme of this congress, “Relieving Pain Beyond Borders” is very timely as it emphasises the need to address the subtle yet debilitating effects of pain in Asia and beyond.

Since its inception in 2011, AAFPS has been working towards addressing the issues of relevance to pain clinicians in the Asia Australasian region, as well as to become the leading professional forum for science, practice, and education in the field of pain.

The organising committee has prepared an exciting scientific programme for pain clinicians, scientists and nurses across a variety of disciplines to take part.  An international panel of speakers will share and present the most recent studies and advances in the areas such as acupuncture and acupressure, cancer pain, central pain, neuropathic pain, pain management and traditional medicine and pain. Participants will also benefit from useful and thought-provoking symposia, workshops and oral presentations.

Accompanying the Congress is a technical exhibition displaying the latest developments in related pharmaceutical products and medical equipment.

Additionally, I encourage you to take this opportunity to explore the many faces of beautiful city, Taipei, and experience the unique Taiwanese culture.

So, join us at this exciting Asian Congress on Pain, a meeting that will better prepare pain specialists to take on the challenge to further improve pain management.

We look forward to your participation at the Congress.
