Event Overview
Welcome message:

Dear Members of the Eastern Vascular Society,

I look forward to seeing all of you at the 31st Annual Meeting of the Eastern Vascular Society which will be held at The Westin Savannah Harbor in Savannah Georgia on Columbus Day weekend, October 5-8, 2017. This meeting promises an exciting educational program and a wonderful social experience over the holiday weekend in beautiful, and warm Savannah!

The Program Committee, under the leadership of Dr. John Blebea, has assembled an excellent program covering a wide range of topics for vascular and endovascular surgery that will be presented by a diverse panel of distinguished speakers. This will include 22 original presentations, 3 videos, and 26 rapid fire presentations, in addition to the e-poster competition. Self-assessment CME credits will again be available, in addition to standard CME.

The Postgraduate Course on Thursday afternoon, organized by Drs. Mark Davies and Misaki Kiguchi, will focus on AV access. This course will provide a thorough review from creation of access, maintenance, dealing with complications, and reimbursement and outpatient centers. Topics will include biologic grafts, percutaneous AVF, use of DCB and stent grafts, TOS and Hero for central stenosis, as well as many other exciting topics, presented by a distinguished faculty.

The Diversity Panel, organized by the diversity committee under the leadership of Dr. Ageliki Vouyouka, will be held on Saturday afternoon. Dr. Daniel Han will discuss social media, and Dr. O. William Brown will focus on social media's role in our practices as well as the possible medical legal implications of using social media. Dr. Sonya Noor will look at outpatient centers, and Dr. Malachi Sheahan will discuss burnout amongst surgeons.

The Issues Panel, organized under the leadership of Dr. Davies, will feature: Dr. Clem Darling, III, on being the last expert; Dr. Mark Davies on teamwork, including limb salvage teams; Dr. Brajesh Lal on stroke teams, ; Dr. Rabih Chaer on vein teams; , and Dr. Yaron Sternbach on spine teams.

The Young Surgeon's Program, moderated by Dr. Paul Foley and Dr. Chris Abularrage, will take place Saturday afternoon, following the mock orals in the afternoon. The program for young surgeons is very exciting this year, with simulation experiences on Friday afternoon, the Job Fair on Saturday morning, and mock orals Saturday afternoon, followed by talks tailored to young surgeons, including: finding the right job fit, tips and tricks in negotiating your first contract, choosing academic or private practice, as well as several other key talks. The Job Fair will provide an opportunity for fellows and residents to meet with potential employers, and for faculty looking for a new partner to meet multiple prospects as well as their mentors. Simultaneously, programs will also have the opportunity for general surgical residents and medical students to meet program directors of vascular training programs. Strong mentorship is critical for the next generation of trainees. The EVS would like to continue to lead the way with a strong mentorship program. I invite you to 'Become a Mentor' to our Society's Future Vascular Leaders and develop meaningful relationships with students, residents, fellows, and young vascular surgeons. Please volunteer on the website to serve as a mentor.

One of the highlights of the EVS annual meeting is the Honorary Lecture. I am delighted to announce that the EVS 2017 Honorary Lecture will be given by Dr. John J. Ricotta, past president of the EVS, as well as past member of the RRC for surgery and past chairman of the American Board of Vascular Surgery. He will talk about the first Decade of the Integrated Residency.

Our Social Programs include a Welcome Reception on Thursday evening and the Presidential Reception on Saturday evening that will provide a mentoring opportunity with the EVS Executive Council, Surgeons in Training, and New Members. Friday afternoon is left unscheduled to facilitate enjoyment of the area. Likewise, Sunday afternoon is a wonderful time to explore, as many hospitals do not have regular operating schedules on Monday in honor of the Columbus Day holiday.

I am honored and privileged to have the opportunity to work with the Executive Council and the Committees over the past 10 months. We much appreciate our industry partners for their continued support of our Annual Meeting. I look forward to welcoming you all to The Westin Savannah in October.
