Dear Colleagues,

It is my honor and pleasure to invite you to join us at the World Ophthalmology Congress® of the International Council of Ophthalmology (WOC2018) to be held in Barcelona from June 16–19, 2018. It is the first time that the WOC has been held in Barcelona and the WOC was last held in Spain in 1933. We are very much looking forward to returning and collaborating with the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology (SEO) who will host the WOC2018.

The Scientific Program Committee is planning more than 200 scientific sessions to enhance your practice—an innovative and original program to present, share, debate, and concur on the latest science and research in ophthalmology from around the world. The Congress will have distinguished faculty of global leaders. It will provide an exciting opportunity for you to become involved and share your original research through the call for abstracts, clinical cases, and late-breaking science. The WOC2018 also includes corporate exhibits displaying the newest products and services in the ophthalmic industry.

Barcelona is a vibrant city in which to soak up the Spanish language, culture, architecture, and of course, gastronomy. You can dine in Michelin-starred restaurants, walk past the Sagrada Familia—the large basilica that’s been under construction for more than 100 years—or sleep in a luxury hotel that has its very own section of Roman wall. Barcelona is the home of the Museo Picasso that houses Pablo Picasso’s artwork in five adjoining 15th century palazzos. A must visit is the quirky Park Güell with its iconic dragon and winding mosaic bench all designed by Antonio Gaudí. You don’t need to look for a reason to walk around in Barcelona: the unique architectural works, colorful scenes, and warm people will tempt you to wander the city.

We welcome you to join the global ophthalmology community in Barcelona during the summer of 2018 for the largest and most influential international ophthalmic event. The World Ophthalmology Congress is the “must attend” event for 2018 with the cross-collaboration spirit of the SEO, European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE), Spanish Society of Implant-Refractive Ocular Surgery (SECOIR), Catalan Society of Ophthalmology (SCO), and the Barraquer Institute (BI).

Beware of Unauthorized Hotel Solicitations

While other hotel resellers and travel agencies may contact you offering housing for your trip, they are not endorsed by or affiliated with WOC2018 or ICO. Beware that entering into financial agreements with non-endorsed companies can have costly consequences.

RESERVATION GUIDELINES

Barcelona attracts many tourists, and due to the high demand for accommodation during the summer months, reservations will be made on a “first-come, first-served” basis.  We recommend booking early to ensure availability. Names of persons sharing rooms must be indicated by e-mail to MCI Suisse S.A. at woc2018reghot@mci-group.com.

All rates are in euros, per room, per night, and include VAT. Book your room directly during the registration process.

Hotel Deposit for Individual Bookings

-Payment conditions for Santos Porta Fira Hotel Barcelona:

A deposit payment covering the full stay is required with your reservation. Your booking will be confirmed upon receipt of your hotel deposit. This prepaid deposit will be deducted from your final hotel bill upon check out (potential additional incidentals would be mini-bar and telephone).

-Payment conditions for all other hotels:

A deposit payment covering the first night only is required with your reservation. Your booking will be confirmed upon receipt of your hotel deposit and will be deducted from your final hotel bill upon check out.

Special Requests & Reservation Changes

Special requests for specific bed sizes, multiple reservations with differing arrival/departure dates, etc. should be sent directly to woc2018reghot@mci-group.com. Do NOT contact the hotel directly with your requests.

A vital part of your WOC2018 experience can be found in the Exhibition Hall, which will feature 200+ exhibiting companies and organizations — one of the largest gathering of innovative ophthalmology products and services shown under one roof.

WOC2018 will offer attendees 25 hours of time to visit the Exhibit Hall, including 9 dedicated hours—unopposed by scientific sessions—to meet with industry and gain an understanding of the latest advances in pharmaceuticals, imaging, devices, technologies and the services to help you provide high-quality patient care.

The Exhibit hall will be open on the following dates and times:

Sunday, 17 June: 8:30 – 17:30

Monday, 18 June: 8:30 – 17:30

Tuesday, 19 June: 8:30 – 16:00
