Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen
as the President of the Conference, it is a great pleasure and a great honor to welcome you to the 47 th anniversary of the DGTHG in Leipzig in February 2018. In the past two years, what has initially been associated with some uncertainties has proved to be extremely positive for all parties involved. For the year 2018, too, I hope, together with Prof. Gorenflo, my pediatric cardiology partner, to promote the exchange of col- leges and to intensify the already close cooperation between our specialist areas. The now familiar model of the "Herzteam" has been tried and tested for congenital hereditary diseases for many years before it was used in the routine of adult heart medicine.
The meeting place Leipzig, the cardiac surgeons and children cardiologists selected for good reason, proves itself also for this cooperation between the specialist not only as spatially excellent, but also as socially wonderful.
This year's motto "HEAL HEARTS"is a strong statement that emphasizes the commonality of the two companies and the "HEALING" the medical profession. In addition, our graphic shows a small and a big heart, which does not appear to be quite broken, but broken in the lines, which is to be understood here as a symbol for the diseased heart. In its color context the graphic with the colors red and blue also points to the left and right heart. The blue background reflects the expanse of the sky and thus makes our good prospects clear for the future.
The meeting presidents of both companies have jointly coordinated the main topics: disorders of the aorta, tracheal disorders and heart failure are common topics, which are, of course, illuminated from different angles. Coronary heart disease is a very important subject for cardiac surgery, and the scientific progress achieved can be discussed extensively.
The focus topic "Heart Disease Borderline" is to highlight where ethical aspects really play a special role. Furthermore, in view of the increasing age and increasing comorbidity of our patients, it will be important to reflect on our own experiences regarding the indication and the results, which patient groups ultimately benefit only from invasive therapy.
In addition to the close networking with the DGPK, the Austrian Society for Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery and the Swiss Society for Cardiac and Thoracic Vascular Surgery are also integrated in this year. In addition, we are planning joint sessions with the specialists in thoracic surgery, vascular surgery and vascular medicine, cardiology, general medicine and the elderly.
Surely the recently agreed framework conditions for sponsoring by third parties represent a challenge to the organizers. Nevertheless, it has been possible to compile an appealing overall program.
In the name of the congress team, I would like to invite you to discuss your scientific results at the conference and also to attend meetings, the subject of which is not your scientific focus. I wish us a successful anniversary, where I would like to define success here as gaining information, as a new stimulus and as a collegial exchange and hope to see you again in February 2018 in Leipzig,
Prof. Dr. Andreas Böning
