Event Overview
Welcome message:

Welcome to the 69th annual meeting of International Doctors in Alcoholics Anonymous (IDAA) at the luxurious Peppermill Resort, Spa also close in proximity to the serene crystal waters of Lake Tahoe. Come out west and experience many moments of clarity through our four day conference. Our theme for this year is "A Moment of Clarity" as this is the miracle of what begins to happen in recovery. In our addictions we all experienced "A Moment of Clarity" when we began to realize we had a problem. At this moment, a possibility of a solution could be entertained. Perhaps we entered AA and recovery voluntarily or more likely via a nudge or even more likely our State Board. Regardless, many thousands of us have come to realized that the annual IDAA meeting is the ONLY source of family recovery available to us. It's a place the whole family can work on recovery which strengthens the family.

In Al-Anon as we work the program, in time, we begin to experience many moments of clarity and situations that baffled us become more clear, and family dynamics can change for the better. The fuzzy thinking or confusing chatter dissipates like the crystal waters of beautiful Lake Tahoe. As we know it, alcoholism affects the whole family, and IDAA is a wonderful place to come with your entire family to learn about alcoholism, codependency, and to find support.

Come to Reno-Tahoe and experience two very special "firsts" for IDAA in 2018. We have our first Al-anon Co-Chair, Susan P. and our first program on Gambling Disorder and process addiction.

Join us at the elegant, recently remodeled luxurious Peppermill Resort, Spa in Reno, Nevada August 1-5, 2018. We will have a Friday Al-anon luncheon speaker and a Saturday night AA speaker. We are delighted to have Cheryl M. from Palm Desert, CA as our Spiritual Speaker on Sunday morning. We'll have the usual programing of AA, Al-Anon, Ala-Twenties, IDAA Teens. Jerry Moe from the Betty Ford Center will be bringing his popular recovery based children's program for 7 to 12 year olds. Rooms for breakout sessions such as NA, Women, OA, GD, etc. and different medical specialties will be available starting at 6am through 11pm. IDAA 2018 will be offering continuing education credits for medical and dental professionals. Also, sign-up for the scenic Fun Run at the Huffier Hills and start your morning running on the gentle hills with panoramic views of the desert. Golf is back, so put your clubs on the list of things to bring!

The Peppermill Resort Spa is located in downtown Reno, only 3 miles and 9 minutes from the Reno Lake Tahoe Airport, with spectacular views of the mountains. Lake Tahoe is 30 miles to the South. Downtown Reno, the "Biggest Little City in the World" is home to the National Automobile Museum, the Nevada Museum of Art, and has abundant historic places to visit. Outdoor activities abound, including hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking.

The Riverwalk is the Center of Everything. Since The Beginning Reno was established right next to the first bridge to cross the Truckee River in the late 1800's. Today, local merchants are proud to welcome you to The Riverwalk District to celebrate the beautiful place where Reno began.

Newcomers are the most important people at any IDAA meeting, and we will be providing every opportunity for them to attend, including full and partial AA and Al-Anon scholarships donated by our members for individuals and families in need. If you know of anyone who may benefit from the IDAA fellowship, please encourage them to apply for a scholarship on or after March 1, 2018.

General Info

Scholarship recipients, like newcomers at a 12 step meeting, are the most important people attending each IDAA meeting. Thanks to the generous contributions of our members we are able to continue the tradition of offering full and partial scholarships for members and possibly their families.

To All Scholarship Applicants for IDAA 2018:

Scholarships are offered for registration fees, CME's, and room only. They are awarded on the basis of economic need and recommendations from their local Caduceus group and/or sponsor. As there are a limited number of rooms available, scholarships will generally be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis; however, first time applicants will be given some preference over those who have previously received scholarships. Each recipient is responsible for the costs of transportation, non-included meals and extracurricular activities.

Each scholarship recipient will share a room with one or more scholarship recipients, or with the spouse, if applicable. Accommodations for dependent children will be in the room with the parent(s). Do not make room reservations on your own; rooms have been reserved by our committee and will be assigned to you well before the convention.

Each recipient will be expected to assist daily during the conference at the various booths associated with conducting the conference. This may include registration, pre-registration for the next year's annual meeting, scholarships, souvenirs, etc. The time commitment will vary according to the number of scholarship participants available, but based on previous experience, it should be no more than 2 hours/day.

After you have been approved, each recipient must register for the conference as though he/she were paying for it -- simply give the approval number on the registration form, either on-line or on paper. We look forward to meeting you and sharing our mutual journeys.
