Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is a huge honour to be President of the BSH and to introduce the 54th Annual Scientific Meeting. The meeting will be held at the ICC which is located in the heart of Birmingham. As many of you will know, Birmingham is a vibrant, bustling, cosmopolitan city and apparently boasts more miles of canal than Venice!

I have always been passionate about Haematology and have always felt it is a privilege to have a career in such a fascinating speciality. Haematology embraces so many different aspects of medicine and I hope our meeting will reflect the breadth and very essence of our practice as haematologists.

Throughout my career I have loved debate and the controversies that surround progress. Often it is not the data but how we interpret the data that matters as we treat our patients. I hope this meeting will be stimulating, challenging and full of friendly debate and discussion.

Finally we all make great friends as we have pursue our careers and our ASM is always the friendliest of meetings so come to Birmingham to learn, to discuss, to relax and to enjoy.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE DATE: TUESDAY 7TH JANUARY 2014 AT 17:00HRS

PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOUR ABSTRACT IS ACCEPTED FOR THE MEETING YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO REGISTER AND PAY THE APPROPRIATE FEE IN ORDER TO ATTEND THE CONFERENCE AND PRESENT YOUR ABSTRACT.

The Scientific Committee invites the submission of original contributions for presentation at the 54th Annual Scientific Meeting. Abstracts submitted should not have been previously published or presented at another British meeting.

All submissions must conform to the Instructions for Submission of Abstracts so please read this carefully before completing the on-line abstract form. Abstracts which do not conform to the guidelines will be rejected.

Accepted abstracts will be published as a supplement to the British Journal of Haematology.  All abstracts will be reproduced exactly as submitted so please check your submission carefully.

A cash prize of £75.00 each will be awarded to the three top scoring posters. In addition there will be cash prizes awarded for the following oral communications:

£200.00 for the best presentation in the Presidential Session

£150.00 for the best presentation in the Early Stage Investigator Class

There will also be a runner’s up prize in each of the above categories of £100.00.

Authors will be notified of the decision regarding their abstract submission during the week commencing 27th January 2014.  Notification will be sent by email.
