IPSSW2015 – Reaching Out to the Future

Dear IPSS Members, colleagues and friends,

The International Pediatric Simulation Society (IPSS) and the IPSSW2015 Organizing Committee are pleased to announce the 7th International Pediatric Simulation Symposia and Workshops (IPSSW) in Vancouver, Canada, 4-6 May 2015.

Building on a wonderful meeting in Vienna in 2014, IPSSW is looking forward to its second trip to North America – this time in the breath-taking city of Vancouver, Canada. The conference will be held at the Westin Bayshore, right on the waterfront, with stunning views of Vancouver Harbour and the mountains beyond, and close to the legendary Stanley Park.

“IPSSW2015 – Reaching Out to the Future” recognizes and encompasses a number of developments in the continued evolution of pediatric simulation. Firstly, the continued expansion of simulation across the globe including to resource-poor contexts and the formation of international collaboratives has us “reaching-out” as a community. Secondly, Outreach simulation, where the centre-based silos are broken down and simulation is delivered in community-based settings, is another manifestation of our simulation enthusiasts reaching-out. Finally pediatric simulation is at the forefront of the trail being blazed into the future in terms of a paradigm shift in education and high-stakes assessment.

IPSSW2015 will bring these themes together in an exciting and stimulating program. In response to positive feedback from previous meetings, we are pleased to have included speakers from a range of industries with important in-sights applicable to our practice. The format of the program components have been refined to facilitate smooth flow between sessions with adequate time devoted to those aspects that you’ve identified as key.

IPSSW continues to represent the world’s largest gathering devoted exclusively to pediatric and perinatal simulation – popular for advancing its practice and network in a friendly and collegial atmosphere. A diverse group of individuals attend with a shared interest in improving pediatric healthcare through simulation.

Submission Info

The International Pediatric Simulation Society (IPSS) and the Scientific Committee of the 7th International Pediatric Simulation Symposia and Workshops, IPSSW2015, invites the submission of original scholarly work in the field of pediatric and perinatal simulation education, research, administration, technology, innovation and evaluation.

Submissions that align with the theme of the conference (IPSSW2015 – Reaching Out to the Future) are particularly welcome.

Completed projects, work in progress, abstracts previously presented at regional, national or international meetings will be considered. Simulation research using standardized patients/actors and virtual reality as well as mannequin simulators, task trainers and computer-based simulations are encouraged.

All abstract submissions will undergo peer-review. The Abstract Committee will allocate accepted abstracts to one of four presentation formats, based on scientific merit and preference indicated by authors:

1. Oral presentation in themed sessions,
2. Poster sessions,
3. Themed round table/panel discussions, or
4. Workshops.

In some instances, abstracts submitted as oral presentations or round table/panel discussions, and deemed to be of scientific merit, may be assigned as poster presentations due to limited availability of time for oral presentations.
As in other years, awards will be given for abstracts of exceptional quality.
