Dear colleagues,

The European Region of the International Union Against TB and Lung Disease (The Union) extends you a very warm welcome to the 7th Conference of the Union European Region. The conference will be held in Bratislava, Slovakia from the 22nd to the 24th June, 2016. The venue for the conference is the New Building of the National Theatre in Bratislava, situated in the centre of the city, relatively close to the many attractions that Bratislava has to offer.

The conference is:

„Know – share – act in the Fight Against TB and Lung Diseases”.

This theme reflects the changing landscape of global public health, and the new era of action that we will embark on together in the coming years. When the European Conference will be held in Bratislava, the Millennium Development Goals era will be ending as a new development agenda takes hold, guided by the Sustainable Development Goals. The World Health Organization’s new Global TB Strategy will be entering its first years of implementation, while the Stop TB Partnership’s Glo­bal Plan to Stop TB will shift into its next phase.

The three-day scientific programme will address how these new agendas will influence the inter-related fights against tuberculosis, lung disease and non-communicable diseases, as well as the global campaign for tobacco control. Plenary sessions, symposia, oral presentations, poster sessions, and workshops will provide a wide range of forums for attendees to hear about new developments, present their work, to meet with colleagues and to explore new partnerships. The Conference program will inspire solutions for the pressing challenges for the future management of TB and respiratory disorders in the European Region.

Numerous pre- and post-conference tours will be available for delegates to explore a diverse range of exciting activities and venues in Slovakia.
