Event Overview
Welcome message:

Overview:

You all have them, you can’t avoid them, and you may not even like them. Studies have shown that up to 15% of patient encounters are perceived as difficult by the clinician that is treating them. As a primary care clinician, you are most often the entryway to patients for their healthcare, even the most “difficult” patients. Many factors contribute to a challenging patient including those that refuse your recommendations, have coexisting conditions and a multitude of symptoms, have unreasonable expectations, and may even want to take over the role of healthcare provider.

This program will examine several common conditions from a “not so common” viewpoint. The presenting faculty will provide education on the issues of depression, migraine and hormonal issues in women, diabetes and its accompanying conditions and complications, and examining pain management including issues of opioid use and overuse, risk management and assessment for opioid use, and motivating people with pain for behavior change.

You will get a deeper look into common themes and be able to take this information and apply it to your “difficult patients” upon returning to your practice. This program will provide opportunities for interaction with the faculty, present your most difficult cases, and participate in finding answers. You will also get clinical pearls and tools to help you in practice, and learn practical and relevant medications you should have in your clinic’s medicine cabinet.

Procedures (Occipital Nerve Blocks, Trigger Point Injections, and Sphenopalatine Ganglion Blocks) will be demonstrated, providing you with practical and billable services for a variety of conditions.
