The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology has reviewed the Current Psychiatry/AACP 2018 Psychiatry Update Presentation and has approved this program as part of a comprehensive CME program, which is mandated by the ABMS as a necessary component of maintenance of certification (MOC). Target Audience

This activity is designed for general and geriatric psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, psychologists, social workers and other mental health professionals interested in treating patients with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, Women’s Mental Health, Depression, Psychopharmacology, Schizophrenia, Geriatric Psychiatry, Medicolegal Issues, Sexual Dysfunction, Chronic Pain, Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Bipolar Disorder.

Learning Objectives

As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:

•    Compare current pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment strategies for management of a range of disorders, including Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders,  Women’s Mental Health, Depression, Schizophrenia, Geriatric Psychiatry, Sexual Dysfunction, Chronic Pain, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, ADHD and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)

•    Explain how the goals of law differ from the goals of medicine.

•    Clarify the difference between jails and prisons in regard to the role of the psychiatrist

•    Discuss the role of risk management in practice.

•    Revise clinical assumptions based on biology, to include intuitive understanding of patients’ sexual aspirations
