ASCIA 2015 – 26th Annual Scientific Meeting of Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIAIt is a pleasure to invite you to participate in the ASCIA 2015 Annual Conference, to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th September.
The conference will include presentations from the following international speakers:

In addition there are more than 70 speakers and chairs from Australasia participating in this conference and we expect approximately 400-450 delegates to attend the conference.
The ASCIA 2015 conference will be held in conjunction with the following three meetings:

Professor Kirsten Beyer
Professor, Department of Pediatric Pneumology and Immunology, University Hospital Charité, Berlin, Germany
Kirsten Beyer qualified as a MD at the Free University in Berlin, Germany, in 1991. She carried out her pediatric training and fellowship at the Humboldt University in Berlin. From 1996-1997 she became a visiting scientist at the Division of Allergy & Clinical Immunology at Johns Hopkins, University in Baltimore, USA. From 1997-2003 Dr. Beyer worked at the Division of Pediatric Allergy & Immunology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, where she was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in 2001. In 2003 she returned to Berlin where she is appointed Professor at the University Hospital Charité. View more.

Professor John Harley
John B. Harley, MD, PhD, holds the David Glass Endowed Chair as Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati. He serves as the founder and Director of The Center for Autoimmune Genomics and Etiology (CAGE), which now is the academic home to 11 Faculty. Before coming to Cincinnati, Dr. Harley led the lupus genetics effort in Oklahoma for over 25 years. He directed the Lupus Family Registry and Repository (LFRR), a collection of 10,000 lupus patients, family members, and controls with 2 billion genotypes and 500,000 specimen aliquots. With his over 400 publications and work underway he and his colleagues have identified or confirming over 50 SLE genetic associations, providing new mechanistic insight into the pathophysiology of this disorder, and have developed evidence supporting Epstein-Barr virus as a major component of the environmental origins of lupus. Many of his trainees have become internationally recognized scholars.

Professor Gideon Lack
Professor of Paediatric Allergy, King’s College London
Head of the Clinical Academic Paediatric Allergy Service, Guy’s & St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust
Gideon Lack is Professor of Paediatric Allergy at King’s College London and Head of the Clinical Academic Paediatric Allergy Service at Guy’s & St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He read medicine at Oxford University before training as a Paediatrician in New York, and then specialising in Paediatric and Adult Allergy in Denver, Colorado. View more.

Professor Luigi Notarangelo
Dr. Notarangelo is Professor of Pediatrics at the Harvard Medical School. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Pavia (Italy) in 1980. He completed his residency in Pediatrics and then fellowships in Allergy/Immunology and Human Genetics at the same University. He obtained a position of Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at the University of Brescia (Italy) in 1986. After a research stage at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD (USA) between 1986 and 1989, he was promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Brescia (Italy) in 1990, and to Full Professor of Pediatrics in 1996, also at the University of Brescia. Hotel accommodation in Adelaide is in very high demand, particularly in September.
We therefore strongly suggest that you book your accommodation early as availability is limited.
A selection of hotels and apartments have been chosen for delegates based on their price and proximity to the Adelaide Convention Centre. The rates have been negotiated for ASCIA 2015 delegates during their time in Adelaide. Upgrades are available at a fee on the below room types. Please check with the hotel at the time of making your reservation.
Delegates will need to book these rooms directly using the booking codes specified below and to provide a credit card for security. Hotels will directly provide delegates with invoice/ receipts for their accommodation.

Abstracts are invited for
ASCIA 2015 Annual Conference posters (displayed from 9-11 September)
ASCIA 2015 Clinical Grand Rounds oral presentations (open to advanced trainees only)
Abstracts must be submitted online by the closing date of Monday 20 July 2015. Acceptance of abstracts will be confirmed in August and they will be published online in the Internal Medicine Journal (IMJ) in September 2015.
Abstract submission details
Only abstracts submitted in English will be reviewed.
Abstracts should be original work, not previously presented at an international meeting.
Abstracts should be around 250 words (but no longer than 300 words) and submitted in Microsoft Word format only, using the template provided on this webpage.
Abstract titles (in capitals) should be short and descriptive, with no abbreviations.
Abstracts may contain tables, pictures, diagrams.
Abstracts should NOT contain symbols such as Greek letters nor arrows.
All abbreviations must be spelled out on first use.
Abstracts should be thoroughly checked for spelling and grammar.
Abstracts should contain the following headings: background, method, results and conclusion.
Abstracts must be submitted by 5pm on 20 July 2015 for consideration by the program committee. Authors will be notified of acceptance of abstracts by early August 2015.
To be accepted, abstract authors must be registered for the Conference, by the early bird registration deadline of 5pm on 20 July 2015.
ASCIA 2015 Awards and Travel Scholarships
Travel Scholarships of $500 each will be awarded to Advanced Trainees and Medical Students who have submitted an abstract. Successful applicants will be advised at least one month prior to the Conference.
Several awards will also be presented at the end of the Conference for posters and Clinical Grand Rounds presentations.

Submission of an abstract and ticking of the box in the abstract submission form indicates an understanding of the following rules for participation in ASCIA 2015:
All author(s) approve submitting this work for presentation.
The author(s) transfer(s) all copyright ownership of the named abstract to ASCIA 2015
The Author(s) agree(s) to materially confine their presentations to information in the abstract if accepted for presentation; if an author has more than one abstract accepted each presentation will be materially confined to the information in the abstract selected for the specific session.
At least one author will be available to present the abstract if selected for the program. The authors will immediately notify the ASCIA 2015 Secretariat if they are unable to present an abstract or if the presenting author is changed.
Please note
Abstracts will only be accepted if the author has registered for the ASCIA 2015 Conference.
Poster rounds will be held on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th September and presenters of selected posters will be advised in August.
Clinical Grand Rounds oral presentations will be held on Wednesday 9th September immediately following afternoon tea.
Posters should be on flexible lightweight paper, cloth or board, preferably portrait orientation, no larger than 1m x 1.2m and include the purpose of the study, a brief statement of methods, summary of results and conclusion.
Abstracts will not be selected without results being included.
Standard abbreviations may be used but Greek symbols and arrows should not be included.
