Event Overview
Welcome message:

We are delighted to invite you to the 2017 Australasian Symposium on Ultrasound and Regional Anaesthesia (ASURA) meeting hosted by the ACE Regional Anaesethesia SIG. ACE is the governing tripartite that promotes and coordinates combined CME activities in anaesthesia and related disciplines on behalf of ANZCA, the ASA and the NZSA.

Since the first symposium in 2008, ASURA has established itself as the principal regional anaesthesia meeting in Australasia. ASURA 2017 will offer the same high-quality regional anaesthesia content as previous meetings, with the addition of an education theme for the scientific programme.

ASURA 2017 is being held at the recently renovated Peppers Noosa Resort from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 February. We plan to draw on the on the beautiful local area for social programme activites and the conference dinner.

Our international keynote speakers combine expertise in both education and regional anaesthesia. Prof Viren Naik is Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa. Prof Naik has extensive experience as an educator and will share how education theory can help those learning, or teaching regional anaesthesia.

Prof Ed Mariano is Professor of Anesthesiology, Stanford University School of Medicine, San Francisco. His research interests include the development of techniques and patient care pathways to improve postoperative pain control with of focus on regional anaesthesia. He has a particular interest in the role of simulation-based training of residents in regional anaesthesia techniques.

Associate Professor Glenn Woodworth, is the Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship Director at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Woodworth is an active education researcher and is particularly interested in the assessment of competency, the effectiveness of different educational methods in medical education, and the use of education technology. Dr Woodworth has pioneered the development of the Anesthesia Toolbox.

As usual our international speakers will be supported by an experienced Australasian faculty from both the regional anaesthesia special interest group and education communities. With the education theme for ASURA, there will be useful content for trainees, novices and regional anaesthesia experts with an interest in teaching.

We look forward to seeing you in Noosa in February 2017.
