Event Overview
Welcome message:
The Boston University Ophthalmology Update and Haimovici Lecture 2018 is designed for practicing ophthalmologists, optometrists, ophthalmic technicians and medical personnel involved in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. In this program, national and departmental experts will discuss the most advanced medical and surgical treatment options for ophthalmic conditions such as cataracts, retinal diseases, strabismus, and glaucoma. This conference is designed to address gaps in knowledge and competence in these areas. It also includes the Haimovici Lecture. Named in honor of Robert Haimovici, MD, beloved retina specialist who served as the Director of the Retina Service at Boston Medical Center and BUSM from 1994 until his death in 2002, this lecture honors his dedication and professionalism and his deep commitment to education.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

Discuss several clinical and imaging findings that can aid in determining visual prognosis following surgery for pituitary adenoma.

Discuss the pertinent clinical signs to narrow the differential diagnosis of anterior uveitis in children.

Describe the results of new studies showing effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of botulinum toxin injections for various forms of strabismus in childhood

Describe opportunities, needs, and essential preparation for international eye care delivery in developing nations.
