Event Overview
Welcome message:

Breast cancer screening with mammography continues to be controversial with ongoing debate surrounding the ages at which to begin and end screening as well as the frequency of screening. New technologies such as digital breast tomosynthesis, whole breast ultrasound and "fast" or abbreviated breast MRI have been shown to complement conventional mammography and improved screening outcomes in some patients. Rapidly evolving data supports incorporating these new technologies when patient-specific factors such as breast density and breast cancer risk are taken into consideration.

This new approach of a more "personalized" or "precision" approach to both screening and diagnostic breast imaging requires that breast imagers keep up-to-date with the many technological advances in the field. The goal of the meeting is to provide up-to-date information about the current practice of breast imaging in this changing landscape of breast healthcare and to provide CME credits to help you meet your requirements in breast imaging.

We are fortunate to have three outstanding, internationally recognized guest speakers in this year’s program. Dr. Bruno Fornage, from the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas, is recognized for his excellence in breast ultrasound imaging and education. Drs. Janice Sung and Christopher Comstock, join us from Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City and bring excellent experience in breast biopsies and lesion management, along with new modalities such as contrast enhanced spectral mammography and risk-based breast imaging. And, we are pleased to have Dr. Susan Weinstein from University of Pennsylvania join us again. Dr. Weinstein will review the 5th edition updates to BI-RADS, the imaging of DCIS and the post-operative breast.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Explain the roles and potential benefits of digital breast tomosynthesis and synthetic 2D imaging in the screening and diagnosis of breast cancer and benign breast diseases

Discuss the data on the use of breast MRI and ultrasound in the supplemental screening of high and intermediate risk women as well as women with dense breasts

Discuss the emerging technologies of ultrasound elastography and abbreviated breast MRI

Demonstrate how to improve image-guided breast biopsy skills

Explain the changes in the new BI-RADS 5th edition for breast imaging
