Event Overview
Welcome message:

This course is designed to be a comprehensive review of anesthesiology, including clinical anesthesia and subspecialties such as cardiothoracic, obstetric, and pediatric anesthesiology, critical care, acute and chronic pain medicine, and perioperative medicine. The most common comorbidities relevant to anesthesia and the basic science associated with anesthesia are addressed.

The course sessions are designed to help improve the participants’ performance on written and oral anesthesiology examinations. Each registrant will be entitled to attend written board sessions each evening, at which written questions will be presented, discussed, and answered. These sessions will be moderated by faculty who regularly organize and hold these sessions for the Cleveland Clinic program. Participants will also have the option of attending a mock oral examination seminar, where proper techniques (and common errors) will be demonstrated using faculty as both examiner and candidate, with active debriefing sessions involving all participants. Workshops on TEE, emergency airway, lung isolation, and ultrasound for regional anesthesia and CVP access are included with your registration.

An additional benefit of this course will be the enduring materials provided with registration to all participants. We will provide comprehensive meeting materials appropriate to a review course in a data stick format. The final unique benefit will be access via password to a website that will contain unique materials to all registrants and “100 Tips for Passing your Boards” created from the experiences of our large faculty. All of this additional material will be included in the basic registration fee. Our goal is to provide an excellent product and experience at an affordable price.

Who Should Attend

The aim of this course is to attract anesthesiology residents preparing for certifying examinations, physicians in practice, and certified nurse anesthetists who desire all or part of a comprehensive review of the specialty. The course is also available to student nurse anesthetists who are preparing for their certification examination and designed for the anesthesiologist who plans to take the ABA Maintenance of Competence in Anesthesiology (MOCA) recertification examination.

Objectives

By attending you will be able to:

  • Describe anesthesia-related challenges associated with care of pediatric, adult, geriatric, and obstetric patients
  • Discuss current issues for anesthesia management of patients undergoing surgery for neurologic, obstetric, orthopedic, urologic, thoracic, cardiovascular thoracic, gastrointestinal, or ENT conditions
  • Summarize the clinical issues associated with preanesthesia testing, blood coagulation, postanesthesia care, monitoring, regional anesthesia, and pain medications
  • Identify and address the challenges associated with anesthesia for patients with coexisting diseases
  • Compare and contrast recent innovations in techniques, devices, and drugs for anesthesia and describe their implications for clinical practice
