Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists (EACTA) and of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA), I’m delighted to announce that the joint EACTA 2014 Annual Meeting and 14th International Congress on Cardiovascular Anesthesia (ICCVA) will be held in Florence, Italy, on September 17th-19th 2014.

I invite you to discover the beauty of Florence, an ancient city that is rich in architectural and artistic attractions, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Florence is Situated in unparalleled location in the middle of the Italian peninsula and surrounded by green hills, Florence has an enviable reputation for cultural richness, convenient transportation links to countries across Europe and overseas as well as excellent accommodation that is conveniently located to the conference venue. In mid-September, under the never-ending sunshine, you will enjoy the beauty of the vineyards that produce astonishing wines to accompany the wonderful cuisine of the region.

The International Scientific Programme Advisory Group has created an extraordinary scientific experience which will showcase the tremendous opportunities that lie before us as we seek to translate scientific evidence into effective therapies. The aim of the meeting is to provide a truly outstanding scientific and educational programme featuring leading figures in cardiothoracic and vascular anesthesia and critical care from around the world. The scientific content will addressthe theme of meeting that is “Appropriate care in the face of reduced resources and increased morbidity”. The faculty speakers will include innovators who are transforming our ability to manage the critically ill patient in undergoing cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia and critical care in a way that were undreamt off just a few years ago. Lectures by these notable speakerswill be complimented by scientific and educational workshops spanning the broad spectrum of cardiothoracic and vascular anesthesia and crtical care. The workshops will address the most challenging clinical perspectives and providing interactive discussions on the latest techniques along with opportunities to learn first hand about new and successful clinical approaches.

I invite you to attend the EACTA/ICCVA meeting in Florence so please put the dates 17-19 September 2014 in your diary and make your travel arrangements. Each delegate can directly book the hotel accommodation through an online reservation system. A varying range of hotels and rates will be available. The room rate includes breakfast and VAT 10% (the city tax is not included). The hotel booking will be guaranteed by a credit card and the payment will be at check-out.

Within 1st July 2014: 1st selling check. The hotel is entitled to reduce the unsold rooms of 50%.       

Within 30th July 2014: 2nd selling check. The hotel is entitled to reduce the unsold rooms of 30%.      

From 30th July to 30th August 2014: In case of cancellation the first night will be charged on the attendees’ credit card.

From 30th August 2014 on: In case of cancellation or no-show the whole stay will be charged on the attendees’ credit card. Please note: Where there is a personal tragedy or extenuating circumstances beyond the guest's control fees may be waivered at the properties discretion however documentation of the circumstance will be required.

Submission Info

Submission of abstracts for the EACTA ICCVA in Florence will open soon on the official websites: www.eactaiccva2014.org and www.eacta.org 

Typing and formatting 

• The abstract should be written in English. Use British spelling, e.g. anaesthesia, oesophagus, crystalloid. However, you can easily eliminate many typing errors and misspelling by using the spell-check feature of your word processing software. 

• The layout of the abstract should be the following: 

• Title Box must only include the Title. Total numbers characters allowed including spacing is 150. 

• Text Box, starting a new line for each subheading: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and References. The title should be brief and in Bold capitals. Headings of the text (Introduction, Methods, etc.) should be Bold sentence case. The total numbers of characters allowed including spacing is 2800, which includes figures and tables. 

• The preferred font is Arial (or similar) with a size no smaller than 11 point (9cpi). Note that the accepted abstracts will be reduced to approximately 80 % of the original size when they are printed. Smaller size will result in unreadable text. 

• Use the SI-system for all units of measurement (e.g. ml, kg, kPa) with the exception of mmHg for blood pressures. With two items or more, negative exponents should be used, e.g. ml 

• min-1. The use of abbreviations should be minimized, and they must be defined the first time they are used. 

• One figure or one table within the borders of the abstract is allowed. Figure and tables should be aligned with the text. Text in the figures or tables will also be reduced to 80%. Be sure that all text in the figure or table is readable. Ensure that lines on figures are thick enough to bear reduction for printing. All figures should be in black-and-white. 

• You may use one and but no more than three relevant references, numbered () in order of appearance in the text and listed at the end of the text. They should have the following sequence: author(s), title, journal (as abbreviated in Index Medicus), year, volume and pages. For example: Latimer RD. Inhaled nitric oxide in the management of pulmonary hypertension after mitral valve surgery. Br J Anaesth 1994; 72: 185-9. 

• Key Words are not needed 

 

Handling of Abstract by EACTA Abstract Committee 

Authors will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of their abstracts by the end of June 2014. Authors of accepted abstracts will also be informed whether the abstracts have been accepted for oral or poster presentation. The presenting authors of accepted abstracts will need to register for participation at the EACTA ICCVA Meeting as soon as they have received confirmation of acceptance of their abstract. Each abstract accepted (as such or after revision) will be included in the Final Programme. However, meeting registration of the presenting author is a prerequisite for final acceptance and publication of the abstract.

All publications will be printed in English.
