ECTRIMS 2015: 31sth Congress of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis
CCIB – Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona #
BARCELONA, SPAINDear colleagues and friends
On behalf of ECTRIMS and its Executive Committee, it is our pleasure to welcome you to Barcelona on occasion of our 31st meeting. In recollection, an early edition of ECTRIMS, well before anyone ever thought it could become what it has grown into today, was held in Barcelona in 1992.
The Spanish Neurological Society was actually born in Barcelona in 1949. The strength of Catalan Neurology alongside that of the rest of Spain is still notable today and Spanish neurologists and neuroscientists continue to work, as many around the world, in the wake of the important findings of Santiago Ramón y Cajal.
The 2015 congress programme is designed to tackle the main topics signaling the path to future MS management. We will see what is in store for diagnosis and differential diagnosis, what for early MS, what is the next step in treating patients and, more importantly, how we can shape treatment to suit each individual’s profile —maximizing efficacy and safety of complex therapies— and how the environment continues to condition MS evolution. In this regard, we shall map out the epidemiology of MS in less typified geographical areas. We will stop at the new subject of prevention as well as that of research in rehabilitation. We will also analyze what endpoints are more useful in clinical trials. The programme will also devote some time to the application of new information technologies, in the programme ‘MS Care 3.0’, to optimize the clinical care for patients with MS. In basic research we shall see what is the current role of genetics and new players in neuropathogenesis of MS.
This will be a four-day vibrant and intensive scientific meeting with many learning opportunities in every current aspect of MS. Our colleagues will impart teaching courses, give plenary talks with updates as to the latest available evidence, also delivered through oral and poster communications. A special session devoted to MS nursing is programmed also this year. We also count on European Charcot Foundation and industry sponsored symposia. For the first time in 2015 IMSCOGS (the International MS Cognition Society) will take official part in ECTRIMS.
This yearly meeting is one of the most important and powerful concentrations of MS professionals world-wide and constitutes a chance for bottomline networking and collaboration opportunities.
Catalonia is a welcoming, active and enterprising nation of open minded citizens that excel in business as well as in the arts. Vocational Europeans and accessible to everyone from anywhere in the world. Catalonia and Barcelona are the flourishing cradle of Gaudí, Picasso, Dalí, Pau Casals, Montserrat Caballé, Josep Carreras, among many others, and of the memorable 1992 Olympic Games.
And while you’re here, please make sure to enjoy - at least for a little - beautiful Barcelona

The Scientific Programme Committee reserves the right to decide on the final allocation and presentation method.
A selected number of abstracts will be accepted for oral presentation based on their scientific merits and on their relation to the topics addressed in the scientific programme of the Congress. We therefore encourage submissions on the main topics covered in the scientific programme.
