Congress of the ESE that will be held in Lisbon, Portugal during 12-14 September 2013.
As Congress President, I would like to invite you to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, to be one of
our partners for this world-leading conference on Endodontology. ESE congresses are well
known as exceptional meetings that combine the clinical science and practice of endodontics
with the underpinning biological and materials sciences. Lisbon is a beautiful and dynamic

Prof Paul Abbott
Professor Paul Abbott is the Winthrop Professor of Clinical Dentistry at The University of Western Australia where he co-ordinates and teaches both the undergraduate and postgraduate endodontic programmes. Prof. Abbott is an Endodontist and he works part-time in a private specialist Endodontist practice. From 2003-2009, he was the Dean of the School of Dentistry and Director of the Oral Health Centre of WA. From 2010-12, he was the Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research. Prof. Abbott has presented over 600 lectures and courses in 37 countries. He has published 113 articles in refereed dental journals and 18 textbook chapters. He serves on Editorial Boards and Scientific Review Panels of 17 international journals. Prof. Abbott is a Past President of the International Federation of Endodontic Associations, the Asian Pacific Endodontic Confederation and the Australian Society of Endodontology Inc. In 2004, he was awarded The University of Western Australia"s Excellence in Teaching Award and in 2008 the Australian Dental Association awarded him their Service Medallion to recognise his services to Dentistry. He is an Honorary Life Member of the Asian Pacific Endodontic Confederation and the University Dental Students Society at UWA.

Prof Imad About
Professor Imad About was born in Nablus, Palestine in 1962. He obtained a biology BSc in 1984 (an-Najah National University, Nablus, Palestine), Biochemistry Master"s Degree in 1987 and Biochemistry PhD in 1992 (University of Aix-Marseille III, Marseille, France). After a post doctorate at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research, Marseille, France, he joined the university -la Méditerranée” as assistant professor at the faculty of dentistry of Marseille in 1996, became associate professor in 2000 and Professor of Oral Biology in 2002. He is currently a member of the -Institut des Sciences du Mouvement CNRS & Université d'Aix-Marseille” and Director of IMEB Research Laboratory (Interface Matrice Extracellulaire-Biomatériaux) at the faculty of dentistry, Aix-Marseille Université, Marseille, France.
Imad's research group is involved in investigating the role of progenitor and non-progenitor cells in dentin regeneration, the early steps of pulp healing and the effects of biomaterials on these events. He is involved in developing dental materials including Biodentine.
Imad ABOUT is responsible for a Master course in Biomaterials at the faculty of medicine at Aix-Marseille Université, Marseille, France and for teaching Immunology, Biochemistry stem cells and tissue regeneration courses at the faculty of dentistry at Aix-Marseille Université, Marseille, France.
Imad has Published more than 100 peer reviewed papers, abstracts and book chapters. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of Journal of dental Research and Journal of Endodontis. He is a renowned and invited speaker in many specialized international meetings and frequently involved in reviewing research publications for 15 leading specialized reviews in the dental, scientific and medical fields. Dr Craig Barrington
Dr. Barrington received his DDS from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1996. He has lectured to a variety of dental societies and study clubs and has written and co-written a number of articles for various dental journals. Dr. Barrington is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, on the board of directors for the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry and is an associate member of the American Academy of Endodontists. Dr Jan Berghmans
Jan Berghmans was born in Leuven, Belgium in 1960. He attended humanities high school class in ancient languages and literature at the St. Jan Berchmanscollege in Brussels and graduated magna cum laude from dental school (University of Brussels) in 1983. Jan is founder member and actual president of the oldest endodontic society of Belgium, the Flemish Society of Endodontology (FSfE). He is certified member of the European Society of Endodontology (ESE) and served as country representative for Belgium at ESE and IFEA. He's been awarded with Honorary Membership of the Bulgarian Endodontic Society. While maintaining a private referral practice limited to endodontics in Brussels Jan Berghmans has been lecturing and teaching extensively both nationally and internationally. Dr. Lars Bjørndal (born 1963) graduated in 1988 as a dentist from the University of Copenhagen. In 1992 he got his Ph.D. on the topic: Caries progression in enamel and the pulp-dentin organ using thin undemineralized tooth sections. In 1999-2000, Dr. Bjørndal received complementary endodontic specialist courses in collaboration with the Universities in Copenhagen, Denmark, Malmö and Gothenburg, Sweden. He is a certified member of the European Society of Endodontology. At present he is associate professor at the Section of Cariology, Endodontics, Pedodontics and Clinical Genetics, Institute of Odontology, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He has authored and co-authored many international and national articles, including book chapters and reviews covering topics such as caries pathology and the treatment dilemma of deep caries lesions with or without pulp exposure. He has given lectures in many countries about this topic including endodontic treatment quality amongst general dental practitioners. In 2011 he received his Dr. Odont degree by defending his dissertation, entitled: Endodontic treatment: reason, prevention and quality-shaping factors. In 2012 he had a visiting scholarship at School of Dentistry, Endodontics at University of Loma Linda, Cal., USA. Since 2012 he has been clinical director for the Special Clinic Section at the Institute of Odontology, Copenhagen University, Denmark.
Dr. C. Bourguignon is an endodontic specialist. She has also specialised in dental traumatology for many years. She practices both specialties in her private office in Paris, France.
Dr. Bourguignon obtained her dental degree from the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, in 1983 and her Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Pennsylvania- Philadelphia- USA- in 1988. She served as -Councilor” of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) for 7 years and was the Editor of the IADT"s Newsletter until 2011. During this time, Dr. Bourguignon was an active member of the IADT"s scientific committee in charge of updating the '"Guidelines for the treatment of traumatized teeth”, which were published in 2007 and revised in 2012. In 2011 she was elected President of the endodontics study club CPEA (Cercle Parisien d"Endodontologie Appliquée). She is co-author of 2 chapters in the book '"A clinical guide to dental traumatology"" published by Elsevier and translated to Spanish and Japanese. She is the author of the chapter -Preventive Strategies for Traumatic Dental Injuries”, in the October 2009 issue of -Dental Clinics of North America” and of the dental traumatology chapter in the French book -Endodontie” released in November 2012. Additionally, she has authored a number of publications on endodontics, dental trauma and related subjects, and has lectured nationally (in France) as well as internationally. She has also been actively involved in campaigns aiming to improve the emergency care of traumatized teeth.

Prof Markus Böl
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Böl, Institute of Solid Mechanics, Technical University of Braunschweig Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Böl studied Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund. After obtaining his diploma he started his PhD project at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum where he received in 2005 his Doctor degree. Since 2007 he is holder of a junior professorship at the Technical University of Braunschweig where he became in 2009 leader of the Institute of Solid Mechanics. MARCELA CARRILHO, DDS, PhD Assistant Professor, Oral Biology, Western University, Canada.
Dr. Marcela Carrilho received her Dental Degree from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of São Paulo, Brazil in 1997, and her PhD in Biomaterials at the same university in 2002. From 2003-2006 she worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Campinas, Brazil, and in 2006-2007 at the Medical College of Georgia, USA. From 2007 until 2012 she worked as an Assistant Professor in Department of Biomaterials at the University Bandeirante of São Paulo, Brazil. Dr Luis Chavez de Paz
Luis obtained his dental degree in 1998 from the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru. He completed the Master of Science in Odontology in 2000 at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, where he also obtained the Doctoral degree (PhD) in 2005 with the thesis entitled 'On Bacteria Persisiting Root Canal Infections". His doctoral work was supervised by Prof. Dr. Gunnar Bergenholtz, Prof. Dr. Gunnar Dahlen and in collaboration with the late Prof. Dr. Åke Möller. From 2005 until 2011, Luis worked as a postdoctoral research assistant at the Department of Oral Biology in Malmö University. From 2011 until 2013 he was a resident in Endodontology in the University of Connecticut Health Center. His major areas of research include microbial biofilms, microbial communities physiology and stress responses. He has authored more than 25 publications, one textbook chapter in The Textbook of Endodontology and is currently editing a book on root canal biofilms. Professor Chong qualified from University College London and spent five years in general dental practice before pursuing specialist training. He was awarded his MSc. in Endodontics (with distinction) followed by his PhD from Guy's Hospital. He was previously associated with Guy's, now part of King's College London, for over 22 years, where he was involved with the education and training of dentists and future specialists.
Professor Chong is the Editor-in-Chief (UK) of ENDO – Endodontic Practice Today and on the Editorial Board of the International Endodontic Journal. He has published numerous scientific papers; research studies on endodontic surgery by Professor Chong and co-workers were accorded Level 1 status and recognised as forming part of the body of evidence and relevant literature on the subject by the Journal of Endodontics. Dr Gilberto Debelian
Dr. Gilberto Debelian has received his DMD degree from the University of Sao Paulo, Brasil in 1987. He has completed his specialization in Endodontics from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine, USA in 1991 and received the Louis I. Grossman Postdoctoral Student Award in Endodontics. He has taught as a clinical instructor and associate professor at the post-doctoral endodontic program at the Department of Endodontics, University of Oslo, Norway from 1991 to 2001, and from 2006 to 2010. He has concluded his PhD studies at the University of Oslo, Norway in 1997 on endodontic microbiology, which gave him two scientific awards from the Europen Society of Endodontology (ESE) and from the Norwegian Dental Association both in 1997. His is an adjunct visiting professor at the post-graduate program in endodontics, University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA. Dr Justin Durham
Justin Durham is currently a Senior Lecturer in Oral Surgery and Orofacial Pain at Newcastle University and a Honorary Consultant Oral Surgeon at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne"s Hospitals Trust in the UK. He currently also holds a NIHR Clinician Scientist award which was awarded in March 2012 to help examine the care pathways in chronic orofacial pain. He was appointed Clinical Fellow/Hon SpR in Oral Surgery at Newcastle University in 2003. He obtained a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2004, and his PhD, -Ideologies and outcomes in Temporomandibular Disorders (TMDs)”, was awarded from Newcastle University in 2008. He completed his specialist training and also became the first person in the UK to pass the American Board of Orofacial Pain in 2011. In addition to currently holding a prestigious NIHR award he has previously received the outstanding post-doctoral award from the Behavioural, Epidemiology, and Health Services Research group of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR), for his research into TMDs. His teaching was also acknowledged through the Vice-chancellor"s award for excellence in teaching and learning and he also received the IADR Education Research Faculty award in 2010.
Justin"s collaborative research into atypical odontalgia (now ontologically reclassified as Persistent Dentoalveolar pain [PDAP] (Nixdorf et al 2012)) began in 2010 with the award of a Lasby Fellowship from University of Minnesota to help fund a period of time working in collaboration with Dr Don Nixdorf to help characterise the pain and the impacts of this condition for the first time.

Dr Ashraf ElAyouti
Dr Ashraf ElAyouti received Bachelor degree in dentistry and doctor of dental surgery in 1988, Alexandria University. After serving 2 years in the Marine as a dental surgeon and another 5 years at the University of Hamburg, he received his doctoral degree, Dr. med. dent., in 1998. Dr David Figdor
David Figdor received his BDSc degree in 1980 and a Masters Degree in Endodontics from the University of Melbourne in 1984. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 1985 and became the first Diplomate in Endodontics of the RACDS in 1986. Collaborative studies conducted over more than a decade with the Department of Endodontics at University of Umeå, Sweden led to completion of a PhD in 2002. He is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, Academy of Dentistry International and, by examination, Fellow of the Australian Society for Microbiology.
David Figdor has been in private practice limited to endodontics since 1984. Since that time, he has been involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at the University of Melbourne and is a visiting scientist at Monash University. For more than 2 decades, he has maintained an active research collaboration with the Department of Endodontics at University of Umeå, Sweden. He has lectured throughout Australia and internationally on both clinical and research topics and has been actively involved in Australian endodontics at all levels. Fabio Gorni was consulting professor in endodontics at the University of Milan, H. San Paolo. He is active member of the Italian Society of Endodontics, of the Italian Academy of Microdentistry, specialist member of the European Society of Endodontology and member of the American Association of Endodontists. From 1994 to 1998 he was part of the members acceptance committee of the Italian Society of Endodontics, while from 1998 to 2001 he was Cultural secretary of the Italian Society of Endodontics. He was President of the Italian Society of Endodontics from 2003 to 2005. Dr. Nicola M Grande received his degree in Dentistry (DDS) from the Catholic University of Sacred Heart, Rome, Italy in 1999 with a degree thesis on the fracture of NiTi rotary instruments. After two years in the Department of Endodontics at the the same University, he served as an Assistant Professor in Endodontics from 2001 to 2009. He has been Professor of Endodontics in the School of Dental Hygiene (2002-2008). Since 2009 he is working as researcher in the Department of Endodontics at the University of Roma -La Sapienza”. He completed his PhD program at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart, in 2009, with a thesis on an innovative technique for the restoration of the endodontically treated teeth, that he has invented. Kishor Gulabivala is Head of Endodontology and Department of Restorative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London. He is also an honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital, University College London and Hospital Trusts. He holds the post of Training Programme Director for Endodontics in London at the London Deanery. Kishor graduated from Birmingham Dental School in 1980. After 3 years in general practice, he completed the MSc in Conservative Dentistry in 1984 and obtained higher training at the Eastman until his appointment as Lecturer in 1987 when he established the MSc in Endodontics (1989) and subsequently the MClinDent and specialist training programmes in Endodontics (1999). He established and ran the clinical endodontic service at the Eastman Dental Hospital from 1994-2004. He was entered on the UK Specialist Lists in Restorative Dentistry, Prosthodontics and Endodontics when they were established in 1999/2000 and completed his PhD on microbial infections of teeth in 2004. He was Training Programme Director for Restorative Dentistry since 2006 and is now for Endodontics. His research interests are centered in Endodontology.

Markus Haapasalo, DDS. Dr. Odont. (PhD), FRCDC (endodontics). Professor and Chair, Division of Endodontics Head, Department of Oral Biological & Medical Sciences Faculty of Dentistry, University of British Columbia Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Dr. Markus Haapasalo received his dental degree from the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Helsinki, Finland in 1978. From 1995 to 2004 he was a Professor of Endodontics in Oslo, Norway and from 2004 professor and chair of the Division of Endodontics at UBC, Vancouver, Canada. He is also the head of the Department of Oral Biological and Medical Sciences. Dr. Haapasalo has authored or co-authored over 140 scientific peer reviewed articles. He is the editor-in-chief of "Endodontic Topics", a former associate editor of "Journal of Endodontics", Editorial Board member of "International Endodontic Journal", and editor of "Visual Endodontics 2012" multimedia. In clinical endodontics his areas of special interest include instrumentation, irrigation, persistent infections, and resorptions. Prof Syngcuk Kim
Dr. Syngcuk Kim is the Louis I. Grossman Professor and Chairman of the Department of Endodontics at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He earned his undergraduate and his dental degrees from Columbia University in New York. Dr. Kim also earned his Ph.D. in circulatory physiology at the Medical School of Columbia University, Department of Physiology.
Dr. Kim is well known and respected for his research in dental pulp physiology and microcirculation and the AAE has awarded him the Louis I. Grossman Award for outstanding research.
Upon joining the Dental School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 as Chairman of the Department of Endodontics, Dr. Kim not only brought the department into the -New Age” of the Microscope, but also established the Microscope Training Center at the school. This Center is the first university-based microscope training program in the world that teaches microendodontics and microsurgery. Since its inception, leaders in endodontic education and clinical practitioners from the USA,South America, Europe, Asia and Australia have been trained at the Center.
In 2010 Dr. Kim was appointed by the Dean to the role of Associate Dean of Global Affairs at the School of Dental Medicine. Serving in this capacity, Dr. Kim travels extensively creating relationships with Dental Schools throughout Europe and Asia, South America, etc. with the goal of promoting academic and scholarly exchange between the teaching institutions.
Extensive speaking engagements take Dr. Kim to universities, conferences, study clubs and professional associations in the U.S. and abroad. In addition to over a hundred articles in peer reviewed journals Dr. Kim is the primary author of the book titled -Color Atlas of Microsurgery in Endodontics”.

Lise-Lotte Kirkevang, Professor, DDS, PhD. Department of Endodontics Institute of Clinical Dentistry, Faculty of Dentristry University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway.
Lise-Lotte Kirkevang received her PhD degree from School of Dentistry, Aarhus University in 2001. During the period 2000-2007 she worked part-time in private practise. In 2003 she received a 4-year research scholarship from the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation, and worked from 2003-2007 as a research associate at the School of Dentistry, Aarhus University. From 2007-2012 she worked full-time as an associate professor in Endodontology at Department of Dental Pathology, Operative Dentistry and Endodontics, Aarhus University. From 2012 she has been working as a professor at the Department of Endodontology at the University of Oslo. Her main research area is endodontology and epidemiology. She has published in national and international peer-rewieved journals and serves as a reviewer for several international journals. She is engaged in teaching pre- and post-graduate endodontology, contributed to textbooks, and given lectures both nationally and internationally.

Dr Thomas Kvist
Dr Thomas Kvist received his DDS in 1983. Subsequently he worked in private practice in Borås, Sweden and in Sorrento, Italy. He completed specialization in endodontics in 1993 and received his PhD in 2001. He has been director of the postgraduate program and since 2009 he is holding a position as senior lecturer at the Department of Endodontology, The Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. Dr Kvist has published articles in peer-reviewed journals on endodontic retreatment decision-making and clinical outcome. He is a member of the editorial board of the International Endodontic Journal. During the period of 2008-2010 Dr Kvist was a member of a project group appointed by the Swedish Council on Health Technology Assessment (SBU) in order to systematically review the body of evidence available for Methods of Diagnosis and Treatment in Endodontics.

Dr Paul Lambrechts
PAUL LAMBRECHTS is born in 1955. He followed Latin-Greek studies at the 'St. Jan Bergmanscollege" of Diest. He graduated as a dentist in 1978 at the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven), Belgium and obtained his PhD at the same university in 1983 based on a thesis investigating dental composites: "Basic properties of dental composites and their impact on clinical performance". Today, he is Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Conservative Dentistry (KU Leuven), and also serves the dental school as Program Director of the dental Bachelor/Master and Master-after-Master programs at KU Leuven. He teaches cariology, oral aspects of nutrition and endodontics. During two tenth of his week time, he teaches pre-clinical and clinical conservative dentistry; 4/10 is spent to own clinical activity, primarily in microscopic endodontics, but also in aesthetic restorative dentistry; for the remaining 4/10, he conducts research in endodontics, more specifically focussing on the development of a concept of minimal-invasive endodontic research, using 3D X-ray Micro-CT scanning, Nano-CT, Cone beam CT and Environmental SEM, towards new root-canal preparation and filling techniques. The photodynamic laser-activated disinfection (PAD) techniques are one of the new research challenges of his group, while the pathology of external cervical resorption is one of his favourite study topics. In addition, specific interest goes also to laboratory and clinical research on dental composites, actually focussing on 3D-laser-profiling of clinical wear phenomena and biotribocorrosion. Together with Prof. B. Van Meerbeek, he became in 2003 co-holder of the Toshio Nakao Chair for Adhesive Dentistry. He is (co-)promoter of several doctoral dissertations, and (co-)author of numerous publications together with the Leuven BIOMAT Research Cluster. He gives scientific and post-academic courses all over the world.
Dr Francesco Mannocci
Prof Francesco Mannocci MD, DDS, PhD, FHEA is a Specialist in Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry. He obtained his MD (Pisa, Italy, 1986) and DDS (Pisa, 1990) in Italy, and his PhD in Clinical Dentistry from King's College London in 2001. After having worked in private practice in Pisa for 18 years while collaborating with the University of Siena as a Visiting Professor he became Lecturer in Endodontology at King's College London in 2004, Senior lecturer/Honorary Consultant in 2006, Head of Endodontology in 2008, and Professor of Endodontology at King"s College London in 2010.
Prof Mannocci has authored more than 90 papers in international peer reviewed journals. He is Associate Editor of the International Endodontic Journal and has worked extensively on subjects including restoration of endodontically treated teeth, instrumentation techniques, dental anatomy, histology, endodontic radiology and endodontic microbiology. Prof Mannocci maintains a private practice limited to Endodontics in Central London.

Dr John Meechan
John Meechan is Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Oral Surgery at Newcastle University and the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He received his undergraduate training at the University of Glasgow and obtained his PhD from Newcastle University. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He has worked in general dental practice in Scotland and South Wales, held hospital positions in Glasgow and Newcastle, and University positions in Vancouver and Newcastle. He is the author of 9 textbooks and over 150 papers. He chairs the dental injection systems working group of the International Standards Organisation. He is the training programme director for Oral Surgery in Newcastle and chairs the Intercollegiate Surgical Fellowship Examination Board for Oral Surgery in the U.K. He is the recipient of a Distinguished Scientist Award from the International Association for Dental Research, a King James IV Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and has won the Medical Futures Innovations award for Dental and Oral Health.

Prof. Zvi Metzger graduated from the Hebrew University School of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem in 1970. Since 1973 he has been on the faculty at the Tel Aviv University School of Dental Medicine, where he served as Dean in the years 1987-1991. Prof. Metzger is specialist in Endodontics and was the Chairman of the National Board of Endodontics in Israel. He is an Associate Professor of Oral Biology and Professor of Endodontology at Tel Aviv University.
Prof. Metzger was a visiting fellow at the National Institute of Dental Research, NIH, Maryland (1978-1981) and a visiting professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1995-1996). He served until recently as Chair of the Department of Endodontology and Director of Research Laboratories at the Tel Aviv University School of Dental Medicine. He retains a private endodontic specialist practice in Tel Aviv.
Prof. Metzger has published and lectured extensively in the fields of Oral Biology and Endodontics. He served on the Editorial Board of Endodontics and Dental Traumatology, of ENDO- Endodontic Practice Today and of the Endodontic Section of Oral Surgery Oral Medicine Oral Pathology Oral Radiology and Endodontics. He currently serves on the Scientific Advisory Panel of Journal of Endodontics and as a referee for International Endodontic Journal. He was the President of the Israeli Division of the International Association for Dental Research (1987), Chairman of the Israeli Endodontic Society (2000-2002) and is a recipient of the Honorary Achievement Award of the Israel Dental Association (2003) for his contributions in dental research and education.

P. N. Ramachandran Nair
P.N.R. Nair graduated from the University of Kerala, India and obtained his doctorate from the University of Zurich, Switzerland (1973). He was a Research Associate (1978) at the Institute of Oral Biology, Dental School, University of Zurich, Switzerland and subsequently (1984) a full-time Senior Scientist. PNR Nair has been an Adjunct Research Professor (1997-2008) at the University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington, USA; a Visiting Professor at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College of London (2004-2011) and is an Honorary Professor at two Dental Schools, Dharwad and Madras, (India). His area of interest has been the interaction between oral microbes and body defense. The light and transmission electron microscopic description of the endodontic flora; published in the Journal of Endodontics (1987,3:29-39); is widely held as the first record of endodontic biofilms – the essetial cause of apical periodontitis. Through a series of collaborative studies with the University of Umeå, Sweden, he helped to identify important etiological agents of post-treatment apical periodontitis in well root-treated teeth. He has authored & co-authored over 100 original publications (some of which are considered classics in endodontic literature) including 8 book-chapters. He has given more than 300 invited lectures worldwide over 30 countries. PNR Nair has been a member of ten learned societies, a founding member of the Swiss Society for Endodontology, and its first Chairman of the Research Committee. He served as a member of editorial board and scientific review panels of several basic science and dental clinical journals. He received several awards that include an honorary Ph.D. (Dr.Odont.h.c.) from the University of Umeå, Sweden (1998), Mexican Endodontic Award (2004), the Seltzer Publication Award (2005) USA, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Agricultural University of Kerala, India (2006); Dr. Grossman Award (2009) from France and Dr. Guldener Prize (2012, Switzerland).

Children (under 18 years old)
Delegates must be aware that the social events at the ESE congress are likely to be very crowded and will involve the availability of alcoholic drinks. In addition, the Welcome Reception will be held in the Trade Exhibition area where a considerable amount of valuable equipment will be on display. Delegates with children should take account of these circumstances should they wish to bring children to the social events on the Wednesday and Thursday.
As a result the ESE has developed the following policy for children:
Children between 12 and 18 years may attend the Welcome Reception on Wednesday, ESE Reception on Thursday and Gala Dinner BUT are required to be registered as accompanying persons and pay the appropriate fee.
Children under the age of 12 years may attend the Welcome Reception on the Wednesday and the ESE Reception on Thursday on the understanding that the venues will be crowded.
