CCIB – Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona #

BARCELONA, SPAIN
The CCIB - Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona came into being in 2004 with the 2004 Universal Forum of Cultures. Following the Forum, management of the Convention Centre was subsequently awarded to GL events CCIB SL, a company created specifically for this purpose. The corporate form of the CCIB is therefore that of a Limited Liability Company (LLC), with the following shareholder structure: GL events: 80% Barcelona City Council: 12% Association of Barcelona Hoteliers: 8% GL events, established in Lyon in 1978, is a world leader in the events sector. In 2011, this group operated a global network of 91 event locations, employed a workforce of 3,700 and generated turnover of 783 million euros. The CCIB’s client profile is composed of three main types: Agencies specialised in staging events for other organisations Private companies which organise an event directly Associations active in specific fields of the knowledge sector. At the CCIB we are able to organise events of any type, whether local or international. Given the characteristics of the Convention Centre, however, we offer outstanding capacity for the organisation of large-scale events with a global reach. These also have a positive impact on the city of Barcelona regarding hotel occupation, catering and other services related to the event. In this regard, 83% of our turnover is generated by international events attended by visitors from all over the world. It is also noteworthy that 42% of our clients are from other countries. We would like to offer you a selection of the events organised by the CCIB since it opened for business up to 2011, as well as - with the kind permission of the respective organisers - notable events already confirmed for the future.

Event Overview
Welcome message:

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists (EACTA) and in collaboration with the Society of Cardiovascular Anaesthesiologists (SCA) it is a pleasure and a privilege to invite you to participate at the 28th Annual Meeting of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists which will take place in the International Convention Centre (ICCB), Barcelona from June 6th - 8th, 2013.

Our theme is "New Technologies: Better Outcome?" It expresses our aim of integrating all new technological tools used in our daily practice and research. Anaesthesiologists are facing the question of when to use and how to evaluate the impact of new technology, especially when it promises to benefit patient safety.

Innovations in technology for anaesthesia and critical care medicine impact on professional cognitive processes like attention, workload, and reasoning. Hence, it is very important to define the characteristics of technological improvement. The success or failure of new technologies that are not directly therapeutic depends on how the use of a device influences physician cognitive processes and the team activity.

At the same time our daily activity is developed in a network of communication that integrates information, research and teaching. The aim of which is to improve patient’s safety by developing better anaesthetic techniques and care, equipment and drugs to achieve better outcomes.

EACTA 2013 will offer you a unique platform to connect with all the aspects of our sub-speciality of Cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia and intensive care in a meaningful way through educational symposia, round tables, lectures, networking, and social activities. Our invitation is extended to interested colleagues and our industry partners, as we are all key stakeholders in the EACTA Annual Meeting and in our daily professional lives. We trust that this Annual Meeting will strengthen our effort to achieve better outcomes.

We are confident that our programme will attract not only cardiac anaesthesiologists but also members of collaborating specialities such as cardiac surgeons, perfusionists, intensivists and interventional cardiologists, as we have all worked closely on designing the content of what promises to be a progressive and thought-provoking professional and educational experience.

Looking forward to seeing you in Barcelona.
