Event Overview
Welcome message:
The 4th Annual NYU Seminar in Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis will review and address those areas where recent, solid knowledge in the treatment of psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and related conditions is available, focusing particularly on the state-of-the-art in the field, at the leading edge between new clinical knowledge and its translation into practice. Rheumatology and dermatology, and specifically psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, are fast-moving fields in which new discoveries are continually being made, and new treatment modalities developed. Because the basic and clinical scientific underpinnings of rheumatologic-dermatologic practice frequently and directly come to impact upon therapy, this course will also explore those areas of new science that are likely to prove important to the near-future management of patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Lectures and year-in-review updates will provide participants with the latest information in psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis and other related conditions; panel discussions and an optional meet-the-professor session will allow participants to raise questions and participate in dialog with the course instructors and clinical experts.

Educational Objectives

After participating in this activity, clinicians should be able to:

Recognize the benefits, and manage risks of newly available biologic therapies for treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and develop strategies to determine when to introduce small-molecule biological therapies into treatment

Recognize when signs and symptoms suggest psoriatic arthritis in patients with psoriasis, describe current screening tools for psoriatic arthritis, and recognize the benefits of early recognition and treatment of psoriatic arthritis

Identify key cytokine and inflammatory pathways in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and identify how side effect profiles of various therapeutic agents may be related to specific immune pathways affected by various treatments and downstream effects
