KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIAWelcome letter
Norain KarimCongress Chair:
Dato’ Dr Norain Karim
MBBS, MPath, FRCPath, FRCPA, IFCAP, MIAC, FAMM
Consultant Pathologist, Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh, Perak
Deputy President, International Academy of Pathology, Malaysian Division
As congress chair of Global Engage's 2nd Digital Pathology Congress: Asia, held in collaboration with the International Academy of Pathology, Malaysia Division, I have great pleasure in inviting you to join me at the meeting in Kuala Lumpur on 22nd& 23rd August, 2016.
Digital pathology is already being widely used for primary diagnosis in Europe and there are now signs that the US FDA is steadily taking steps to authorise its use in America. This is a technology that is on the verge of being widely adopted and every single pathologist, pathology laboratory and teaching organisation must consider, today, what steps they need to take to future-proof and transform their practices.
Building on the success of the first meeting, this year’s congress has been structured so that you will bring home with you the following important knowledge:
understanding the potential of digital pathology in a variety of different settings
with knowledge of the strategies that have been used elsewhere and which will enable you to successfully adopt digital platforms and integrate them into your existing work flows
with practical knowledge on using whole-slide imaging.
I am delighted that Dato Dr Azman Abu Bakar, Director of Medical Development Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia has agreed to launch the opening for this meeting. This congress will truly offers you a unique opportunity to discover how these wide ranging applications can deliver improved patient outcomes as well as reduced lab costs, improved workflow efficiency, create greater interconnectivity between hospitals and pathologists globally, transform education methods and achieve better decision making.
I look forward to welcoming you to Kuala Lumpur.
