This program is an update of current information on MR Imaging in the assessment of musculoskeletal disorders. Essential anatomy and physiology are emphasized that explain imaging findings in disorders of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle and foot. MR imaging findings in the assessment of common problems in peripheral joints are compared to those derived from other imaging methods. A series of “rapid fire” presentations will highlight some common and important sporting injuries.

A SPECIAL TWO-DAY SYMPOSIUM ON ANKLE AND FOOT IMAGING WILL BE OFFERED, WHICH CAN BE ATTENDED ALONG WITH THE ENTIRE FIVE DAY COURSE OR AS A SEPARATE COURSE. THIS SYMPOSIUM WILL EMPHASIZE THE ROLE OF MR IMAGING, AS WELL AS OTHER IMAGING METHODS, IN THE ASSESSMENT OF COMMON AND UNCOMMON DISORDERS OF THE ANKLE AND FOOT, INCLUDING TARGETED AND IMPORTANT CLINICAL PROBLEMS, AND WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY A 3 ½ HOUR AFTERNOON SESSION DEALING WITH ULTRASONOGRAPHY OF THIS ANATOMIC REGION, WITH LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS OF TECHNIQUE.  

Instructional Objectives

• Assess MR images in patients with internal derangements of peripheral joints
• Articulate the anatomic features fundamental to accurate interpretation of the MR imaging findings in these disorders
• Formulate a reasonable differential diagnostic list and be able to identify the most likely diagnosis
• Comprehend the pathogenesis and imaging findings associated with common and important disorders that affect all joints, especially the knee

Target Audience

The target audience is practicing radiologists, orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, podiatrists, and other physicians interested in musculoskeletal disorders.
