International Association for Cross Cultural Psychology (IACCP) 24th International Congress 2018
Dear Members of the IACCP, Delegates and Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing and the Scientific Committee, I am delighted to invite you to the 24th Congress of the IACCP in the City of Guelph in Canada in 2018. Guelph is pronounced like Gwelf and rhymes with self.
Hosting the IACCP Congress is a great honour and we believe Canada is a perfect place to host the next congress. Canada was the first country in the world to adopt multiculturalism as an official policy in 1971. Following, this tradition, the conference theme is Multiculturalism in a Global Perspective: Benefits and Challenges. We are pleased to showcase what Canada and Canadian scholarship on culture and psychology have to offer. More importantly, we offer a platform for scholars working in different parts of the world to come together, exchange ideas, and collaborate.
The conference venue is the University of Guelph, which has an attractive North-American campus. Guelph is a medium sized research intensive university with excellent facilities to host an international conference. The University has one of the largest university housing systems in Canada. The City if Guelph also has many hotels and guest-houses.
The City of Guelph is about 90 kilometres from Toronto and there are buses and trains connecting the two cities. Guelph is a vibrant city of 120,000 people, known for its 19th Century limestone architecture, high quality life, beer micro-breweries, and art and music festivals.
We look forward to welcoming you to Guelph.

Submission Info
This congress brings together international scholars who investigate the nexus of culture and psychology from diverse perspectives. We invite submissions of symposia, papers, rapid papers posters, and discussion forum in all areas of culture and psychology.
The conference theme is Multiculturalism in a Global Perspective: Benefits and Challenges. The theme of the conference reflects Canada’s history as the first country in the world to adopt multiculturalism as an official policy in 1971. Multiculturalism also reflects psycho-social principles that when all ethnicities and cultures are encouraged to share their language and heritage and have opportunities to interact with each other on a level playing field, such contact usually leads to greater mutual understanding and acceptance. Creating barriers between groups and individuals reinforces ignorance, and leads to mistrust and hostility. In other words, rejection breeds rejection; acceptance breeds acceptance. We encourage submissions that are pertinent to our general theme (i.e., multiculturalism) and specific themes (e.g., ethnicity, gender, health, peace, etc.), see list of conference topics on the submission site.
Call for Symposia, Papers and Posters
To receive full consideration, submissions must be submitted before 20 February 2018.
All proposals received by 20 February will be reviewed and individuals will be notified of the status of their submissions by the end of March 2018.
All submissions must be in English. Submissions will be accepted in four forms: symposia, individual papers, rapid papers, and poster presentations.
Conference Registration
Final acceptance will be dependent on the conference registration of all presenters, discussants and panel members.
Refereed Abstracts
All abstract submissions are refereed by members of the Scientific Program Committee. Please note that individual presenters in symposia will not be contacted directly by the Conference Organizing Group.
Symposium (1.5 hours)
Each symposium will consist of up to three presentations plus one discussant. If it is double symposia, one symposium could have four presentations and the second one three presentations plus one discussant. Symposia presentations should include theoretical framework and detail presentation of method, analyses, and results. It is expected that symposia papers provide an overview of recommendations and/or application of the projects. It is expected that these presentations will be thematically linked. The symposium Convener who will also Chair the session, should forward the submission form on behalf of all the presenters, together with copies of the symposia abstracts (both overall and for each individual paper). Symposia presenters should NOT submit their own abstracts individually or separately. The submission must include the name and complete contact information for the single individual responsible for the symposium and a 250 word maximum introduction to the thematic content of the symposium and an abstract for each of the papers to be presented within the symposium.
Individual Research Paper Session (1.5 hours)
Each individual paper will consist of a 15–minute presentation plus 5 minutes for questions. The individual research papers are used for detail presentation of results of empirical studies. The Scientific Program Committee will integrate sets of individual papers into thematic sessions of one and a half hours’ duration. The submission must include the name and complete contact information for the individual responsible for the paper and a 250 word maximum abstract.
Rapid Paper Presentation (5 minutes/presentation)
Each rapid paper presentation will consist of a 5 minute presentation, along with no more than 4 Powerpoint slides. Rapid paper presentations should be used for sharing information on results of pilot studies, preliminary findings, and project development and program evaluation. Rapid paper presentation sessions will be grouped with similar topics. The submission must include the name and complete contact information for the individual responsible to present the rapid paper and a 250 word maximum abstract.
Poster Presentation (1.5 hours)
Poster presentations provide an opportunity for presenters and participants to interact in a less formal environment than that provided by papers or symposia. All poster abstracts should include detail information about method, analyses, and results of empirical research. Posters will be available for a period of time during the conference, in thematically linked sessions. Presenters are required to be present at their poster display in order to discuss their findings with interested delegates at the time scheduled by the conference organisers. This time is likely to be during one of the smaller meal breaks. The submission must include the name and complete contact information for the individual responsible for the poster and a 250 word maximum abstract.
Discussion Forum
A Discussion Forum consists of between 3-5 discussants plus one Convener. This format is intended for examining a particular topic or ideas (e.g., multiculturalism) and examining it from multiple perspectives and theoretical framework. This includes exploring different research methodologies, practices, and cross-cultural policies. The Discussion Forum is not intended for empirical research presentation. It should take a debate format and allows for questions and comments from audience.
The Convener should submit: a statement about the issues to be discussed and why it is important. Also, a summary of ideas to be explored should be included. A Discussion Forum may be allocated one hour.
