Prof. Sam L Evans

Sam Evans joined the School in 1996 from the University of Southampton. His research interests are varied and cover various aspects of the deformation and failure of materials, with a particular interest in biomaterials and nanocomposites. Particular areas of interest are fatigue of biomaterials such as bone cement and of aerospace materials, the use of acoustic emission and ultrasound techniques to detect damage, and computational modelling using finite element and boundary element models. Recent areas of interest include the use of digital image correlation techniques to measure strain distribution in bones, skin, implants and aerospace components, and the development of constitutive models and new implicit solution algorithms for skin and soft tissues.
Prof Evans leads the micro/nano manufacturing group and has a particular interest in polymer nanocomposite materials.
Prof Evans is a member of the Arthritis Research UK Biomechanics and Bioengineering Centre and the Cardiff Institute of Tissue Engineering and Repair, and has an exceptional track record of interdisciplinary collaboration, with current projects with colleagues from the Dental School, Child Health, Gynecology, Orthopaedics, and the Schools of Biosciences, Pharmacy, Computer Science and Earth Sciences.

Meanwhile, he is an adjunct professor & doctoral supervisor in Department of electronic engineering, City University of Hong Kong; the director of the laboratory of communication and information security; a senior member of the Institute of electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE); The Chinese Institute of Electronics fellow ; a senior member of China Institute of Communications; an expert team member of ISO/IEC/SC6 Jurisdictional Unit; a member of China broadband wireless IP Standard Working Group criteria panelists; a member of Shen Zhen information technology/medical information the expert committee. He has won the first-class Scientific and Technological Progress Award for Universities and the third prize on natural science in Guangdong province. Now, He is engaged in the communication and information security, digital media communications, digital home network, video and audio signal processing, wireless mobile communication teaching and research.
Assoc. Prof. Jamaluddin Mahmud,

Assoc Prof Dr Jamaluddin Mahmud is a senior member (SM) of IACSIT (80343528) and a member (M) of IAENG (118142). He is currently an esteemed member of the panel of judges for the Crown Prince CIPTA Award (CIPTA 2013) Brunei Darussalam and International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX) since ITEX 2012. His academic pursuit has led to a PhD degree in (Biomechanical) Engineering from Cardiff University UK, an MSc (Manufacturing) Engineering degree from International Islamic University, Malaysia (IIUM) and a B.Eng. (Hons.) Mechanical Engineering degree from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). He obtained his PhD in less than 3 years and for that, he has been regularly invited to share his PhD study experience. He joined the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UiTM as a lecturer in 2001, and currently an Associate Professor and a Deputy Dean. He has three years of industrial experience, working as a service engineer at UMW Equipment Sdn. Bhd. Dr. J Mahmud has been lecturing on Biomechanics, Composite Materials, Finite Element Method, Manufacturing Processes and Product Design, which happens to be his areas of research interest and has published more than 80 technical papers in journals and conference proceedings locally and internationally. Due to his expertise and experience, he sits in many committees, editorial boards, training groups and evaluating teams in various events at national and international level. Due to his active exploration on the new application of motion capture system, a paper entitled ‘Using motion capture and analysis to explore the mechanical properties of human skin in-vivo’ has been invited by IMechE, UK for presentation at the IMechE Medicine and Health Division Meeting: 15 October 2009.
