KT4 Specialty Pediatric concepts
The KT4 Pediatric course is designed to provide advanced Kinesio Taping techniques and problemsolving to physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, massage therapists, athletic trainers, and other health professionals specializing in pediatrics. Kinesio Taping is a method of treatment for musculoskeletal and Myofascial disorders. Kinesio Taping can be used during physical activity and in conjunction with many therapeutic interventions. Attendees will review theory and basic taping techniques, learn advanced and combination techniques, and develop clinical reasoning skills relevant to the pediatric population. The course will also provide commonly used taping techniques for specific diagnoses, including cerebral palsy, hemiplegia, torticollis, and brachial plexus injury; as well as pediatric sports related injuries.
Develop proficient knowledge of basic Kinesio Taping principles, properties, and techniques.
Be able to identify three specific muscle synergies/patterns and Kinesio Taping techniques to facilitate muscle balance and alignment.
Learn four advanced Kinesio Taping techniques.
Become familiar with commonly used Kinesio Taping techniques for specific pediatric diagnoses.
Be exposed to adjunctive treatment options for specific pediatric diagnosis.
Be involved with problem solving strategies for treatment utilizing Kinesio Taping.
Patricia Martin, PT, Certified Kinesio Tape Instructor, is currently manager of satellite services at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation. She previously worked at Metro health Medical Center treating adult and pediatric patients with a variety of diagnoses. These include TBI, SCI, CVA, and orthopedic issues. Trish has over twenty years of experience and has assisted Beverly Cusick in courses on lower extremity biomechanics, splinting and casting. She is pediatric NDT trained and has taught pediatric taping courses nationally.
Audrey Yasukawa, OT, Certified Kinesio Tape Instructor, is currently Chief of Occupational Therapy at LaRabida Children’s Hospital. She previously served as a pediatric resource clinician at The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and assisted in the upper extremity botox clinic. Audrey piloted several pediatric research projects while at RIC and has published numerous articles on casting and taping. She has worked with adult and pediatric patients with a variety of neurological and orthopedic diagnoses. She is pediatric and adult NDT trained and has over 20 years experience with upper extremity casting. Audrey has taught pediatric and adult taping courses internationally.
