Courses at the Neuroscience School of Advanced Studies are very intensive courses. They are structured to provide an informal, stimulating and non-intimidating atmosphere where participants can effectively build scientific relationships and develop collaborative networks with young scientists and senior investigators. Each Course Coordinator designs the curriculum of each Course and the high Faculty/Participant ratio is ensured by competitive selection in the application process.

Cortona is a small hillside town and the Convento di Sant'Agostino, the site of the Courses, is in the very center. Accommodation will include modern 3- and 4-star hotels, a few small “boutique” hotels in typical Tuscan style, all within a short walk to the lecture halls. Hotels are assigned on a first come-first served basis and it is recommended that prospective participants enroll early since the most charming locations fill rapidly.
Breakfast will be served at the participants’ hotel or at a café in the immediate vicinity. Main meals will be served at or near the Course site and are the natural continuation of the times spent in the lecture hall for relaxed science talk or for recreation. Typically traditional Tuscan cuisine will be served and the menus will vary daily and with the seasons. Please contact us in advance if you have specific requests or special dietary requirements: we cannot guarantee that all special needs can be met.
Courses will take place in the vibrant surroundings of the Abbazia di Novacella and participants will be accommodated in the historic rooms of the monastery or in a hotel just outside the Abbazia. The monastery has a limited numbers of simple single rooms for the most part designed in maisonette style, and double rooms, some of which are fitted out with historical furniture. In the spirit of the monastery the rooms are kept deliberately plain throughout, without TV or telephone. Nevertheless modern media is of course also available, with a TV lounge, internet points and Wi-Fi in the halls. The atmosphere is enriched by a club room where some of acclaimed wines of Neustift are available, a wine cellar for relaxing during breaks and a biotope oasis of unspoilt nature and seclusion as well as a swimming pool.
All meals are served in the vaulted dining hall where chefs prepare dishes using regional, seasonal ingredients and offer vegetarian alternatives.
