Welcome message:

This session aims to look at the issues surrounding the management of patients requiring oral surgery in primary care and the delivery of services from a primary care perspective. Referral criteria will be discussed along with the management of medically compromised patients in primary care and management. An overview of the Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma in Minor Oral Surgery at the FGDP will be given as part of this session.

Richard Moore, Specialty Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Richard Moore qualified from the University of Birmingham in 2002, since then he has worked exclusively in oral surgery. He is actively involved in education and teaching and is the Course Director at the FGDP for the PG Cert in Minor Oral Surgery and the Diploma in Primary Care Oral Surgery. Alongside this he runs programmes for DCPs in oral surgery.

Richard has worked in a variety of settings within oral surgery both in the UK and North America. He has been involved in the delivery of primary care oral surgery within the Midlands and a variety of secondary care posts across the UK, holding academic positions at King's College London and The University of Warwick Medical School.  As well as directing courses at the RCS he is the Specialty Lead for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
