Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

General Session

  • Recognize benign nipple conditions
  • Determine the best risk assessment tool for an individualized patient and understand the management of an unaffected BRCA mutation carrier
  • Discuss strategies for anxiety management in high-risk and affected breast cancer patients
  • Understand the controversies developing in screening mammography
  • Discuss contemporary axillary management strategies and their risks
  • Discuss unusual breast tumor types
  • Determine the appropriate follow-up strategy for benign, high-risk and cancer patients

Seeds Workshop

Didactic portion:

  • Describe the advantages of radioactive seed localization over wire localization
  • Describe the radiation safety protocols necessary for a radioactive seed localization program
  • Describe the steps and equipment needed for the radiologic placement of seeds and for the surgical excision of seed-localized lesions

Radiologist hands-on simulation session:

  • Demonstrate safe handling of radioactive seeds
  • Demonstrate safe and effective ultrasound-guided seed placement
  • Demonstrate safe and effective mammographic-guided seed placement

Surgeon hands-on simulation session:

  • Demonstrate safe handling of radioactive seeds
  • Demonstrate safe and effective surgical excision of seed-localized lesions

Lodging Accommodations

A limited block of guest rooms have been reserved for attendees with a special course rate of $179 per night, single or double occupancy, at One Ocean Resort and Spa. Guests 18 and younger stay complimentary in guestrooms with an adult.

Group rates are honored three days prior to and three days following the course dates, based upon space availability. To make your reservation, call (800) 874-6000 or (904) 249-7402; please identify yourself as a participant of the Mayo Clinic 2014 Breast Disease course when making your reservation. You are urged to make your reservations early.

To receive the special rate, you must make reservations before the room block is filled or by the expiration date of Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, whichever comes first. Following this date, reservations at the contracted meeting rate will be taken based upon resort room availability.

Attendees are responsible for their own reservations. There is a cancellation policy of 72 hours prior to arrival. If reservation is cancelled within this time, the deposit is non-refundable.
