The palace, located in Piazza Bra in front of the Arena, was originally built to counterbalance the amphitheater. Initially built in the baroque style in the first half of the 17th century by Domenico Cartoni, pupil of Sanmicheli, it was not completed due to lack of funds. The works on the palace started again in 1808 under the Hasburg Empire and they were completed only in 1854, after the First war of Independency. The original purpose of the building was to provide a wide porch under which Doge’s troops could be reviewed also during the rainy days. Recently, after reconstruction, Gran Guardia became an important convention centre hosting exhibitions, cultural events and fairs.
At the meeting, the sponsoring companies who want to make a contribution can choose different options.
