Event Overview
Welcome message:

The AANS MOC Preparation and Neurosurgical Update provides a thorough update on clinical concepts for all levels of neurosurgeon, whether preparing for the MOC Exam, looking for a timely update on clinical knowledge, or needing to fulfil CME and Self-Assessment in Neurological Surgery (SANS) requirements for the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. This course should serve as a tool to prepare for the Maintenance of Certification Examination.

NEW in 2015: SANS and CME Requirements
Neurosurgeons certified through the ABNS must complete one SANS activity every three years as part of the MOC program and the MOC Preparation course now fulfills that requirement. Participants also earn up to 25.5 AMA/PRA Category 1 Credits™.

MOC Exam Review
The interactive audience-response system (ARS) allows participants to anonymously submit responses to hundreds of questions throughout the course, testing their knowledge against that of their peers and getting a strong feel for the format and logic of exam questions. After the course, participants receive a detailed score breakdown, identifying areas in which they were strong and areas which may require further review prior to the MOC exam.

Neurosurgical Update
To cover the broad range of topic areas included in the MOC Exam, yet still provide a stimulating review, questions are based on over 100 clinical cases that run the gamut of neurosurgical topics. The expert faculty presents cases in their areas of expertise. Over the weekend, cases and questions span all subspecialty areas that appear on the MOC exam.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Describe current treatment concepts and management strategies for the broad spectrum of neurological surgery
  • Asses one's clinical knowledge in comparison to fellow neurosurgeons
  • Design a personalized study guide for the MOC Cognitive Exam
  • Discuss patient care updates from recent clinical trials
