Speakers/Faculty:

Dr Bruce Sangeorzan, M.D.

Dr Sangeorzan trained as an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in orthopaedic trauma and adult foot and ankle reconstruction. He has spent the last 27 years in treatment of and research focused on injury and deformity of the foot and ankle, including arthritis and gait abnormalities that result from arthritis. His research focus has also been on mechanics of the foot, the role that deformity and surgical correction play in those mechanics, and the issues of patient quality of life before and after treatment. For the last 6 years he has worked with the Orthopedic Trauma Association (OTA) and the Department of Defense (DoD) to study the issues surrounding severe war extremity trauma.

Dr Sangeorzan is currently the site PI for the METRC (multi center extremity trauma consortium) funded by DoD to study these issues.  In addition, he chaired the Outcomes Committee of the AOFAS and is currently the PI for a study looking at the outcomes of ankle arthroplasty and arthrodesis. As a clinician, he is very interested in research that aims to determine clinical recommendations and enhance patient care. As a PI or Co-Investigator on previous federally funded grants for over 20 years, he laid the groundwork for the proposed research by developing techniques of treatment, measuring outcomes, and establishing strong ties with referring providers that will make it possible to recruit and track participants over time. In summary, he has a strong interest in patient-specific foot and ankle characteristics and has demonstrated a record of successful and productive research projects in this area; his experience has prepared him to serve as an investigator on the proposed project.

Dr Les Grujic

Dr Les Grujic specialises in foot and ankle surgery, including foot and ankle trauma, arthroscopic surgery, sports injuries and reconstructive surgery.  He completed his Fellowships in traumatology and foot and ankle surgery, at Harbourview Medical Centre , Seattle, Washington 1992 – 1994.  Les attends North Shore Private Hospital and  Macquarie University Hospitals, Sydney.  His practice is exclusively  foot and ankle surgery.  He is a member of the AO Foot and Ankle Expert Group – 2004 and is currently a member of the  AO Education Task Force where he is involved  in the development of global orthopaedic education and surgical training.   He has chaired  many AO Foot and Ankle courses in  Sydney, Davos and recently Bangkok.
